Craig Morton threw two touchdown passes to lead Denver over Kansas City before the largest crowd at Arrowhead in six years. Denver took a 10-0 lead with 17 seconds left in the first half when safety Bill Thompson returned teammate Bob Swenson's errant lateral two yards for a touchdown after a fumble recovery. Morton extended Denver's lead to 17-0 on the fourth play of the third quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Haven Moses. Kansas City's lone touchdown came with 1:56 left in the game on Arnold Morgado's one-yard run. The Broncos' victory kept them tied for first place in the AFC West.
