Chicago capitalized on a blocked punt and five interceptions to blank Tampa Bay and keep their playoff hopes alive. In the first quarter, Bruce Herron blocked a punt and linebacker Lee Kunz returned it 16 yards to set up Walter Payton's one-yard touchdown run. Gary Fencik's second-period interception preceded Mike Phipps' 13-yard touchdown pass to Dave Williams. The Bears were the last team to shut out the Buccaneers, 10-0 on December 4, 1977.
