Secretary of State William Rogers and Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin discussed U.S.-Russian involvement in the Mideast; both are rigid, but worried. Another meeting is scheduled next week. [CBS] The two-man Soviet spacecraft's orbit is good; astronauts Neil Armstrong and Alan Bean, who are currently visiting Moscow, said that they hope the Russian mission is a success and they gave presents to Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin. [CBS] The chairman of the Apollo review board reported that human error during pre-launch tests was the cause of Apollo 13's later explosion. [CBS] Federal Communications Commission chairman Dean Burch says that he favors reduced political advertising rates. Senator William Fulbright wants television time for Congress as well as the President; Fulbright opposes President Nixon's television monopoly. [CBS] University of Wisconsin scientists have created the first man-made gene as a step toward the creation of life and correction of disease. [CBS] Writer John Gunther's funeral was held today.
