  • Charles DeGaulle died of a heart attack at the age of 79. His funeral will be held Thursday in a Colombey, France, churchyard. President Nixon will attend the funeral mass in Paris. DeGaulle led the Free French Movement during World War II and was hailed as a national hero. DeGaulle resigned in 1946; chaos followed.
