The Man On The Flying Trapeze [special] The ubiquitous George Plimpton, American's professional amateur, sets his talents -- and his hands -- to the trapezes of the Clyde Beatty-Cole Brothers Circus for a behind-the-scenes look at the life of the big top performer. In addition to joining the Flying Apollos, Plimpton takes a chair with lion tamer Dave Hoover, rides aboard a prancing elephant and participates in several of the sideshow attractions.

[NBC 9:00] First Tuesday A Canadian Broadcasting Corp. report by Michael Maclear on the radical changes underway in North Vietnam. Filmed last December, the report documents the shift in priorities from the military to the home front -- a crash effort to industrialize for a "better base for victory in the future". Lasting approximately 50 minutes, the film shows the people of Hanoi at leisure. Another feature explores the "mystique" surrounding singer Janis Joplin, who died at the age of 27 reportedly from an overdose of drugs.
