  • More antiwar demonstrations are set to begin tomorrow in Washington, DC. Some office windows have been boarded up, and barricades have been placed in anticipation of the demonstrations; 100,000 are expected for a protest at the Capitol. Mitchell says that domestic radicals are a greater threat to national security than foreign spies. Police have been stationed outside the South Vietnamese embassy. President Nixon will be at Camp David, Maryland.

Senator Mike Mansfield said that antiwar protests such as these are influencing Congress to cut off funds for the war. Senator Barry Goldwater warned that a bill to curb the President's power to commit U.S. forces overseas would be dangerous. [CBS]

  • The U.S. command in Saigon reported that a "protective reaction strike" in North Vietnam may have damaged North Vietnam's MiG jet fighters. American B-52s staged bombing raids in the Ashau Valley of South Vietnam today as ground forces encountered little enemy resistance when they attempted to take the northern part of the valley, a known Communist stronghold.
