Forty-three of the Metropolitan Opera's leading artists gather to pay tribute to the man who is retiring as general manager of the Met after 22 years in that post. The program features highlights of a 3 1/2 hour concert at the Met with seven conductors leading the orchestra, and guest soloists ranking with opera's Who's Who. Rise Stevens, former Met mezzo-soprano, will serve as hostess.
