[NBC 8:30] Chronolog The Texas Rangers are profiled in one segment of NBC's monthly magazine. Tom Pettit reports that the Rangers, long a staple in Hollywood westerns, in 1823 were really a private army to make Texas safe for colonizing. Today they stand as America's oldest law-enforcement agency. They have an elite group of 82 men who work as criminal investigators, often assigned to assist local law enforcement agencies in the state's rural areas.
