[CBS 10:00] Smithsonian Adventure With Wally Schirra: 99 Days To Survival [special] A documentary recreation of one of the most important explorations in the history of the United States: John Wesley Powell's 1869 journey down the Green and Colorado Rivers through the Grand Canyon. Walter Schirra is host, and E.G. Marshall reads from Powell's journal.

[NBC 10:00] The American Experience: The Fabulous Country [special] Chet Huntley is host of the first of a ten-part series keyed to the bicentennial celebration of the American Revolution. This segment opens in Boston during the 1770s when revolt against England was in the air. Benjamin Franklin is seen in profile in his many capacities as printer, author, philosopher, humorist, inventor and statesman. Next in focus will be the expansion of the small country to the West, with portraits of the pioneers who hunted, trapped and explored the wilderness regions. Walter Brennan will act as storyteller for these sequences. The series will air two segments per year through 1977.
