. . . where the 1970s live forever!

News stories from Wednesday December 13, 1972

Summaries of the stories the major media outlets considered to be of particular importance on this date:

  • Henry Kissinger returned to the U.S. after the latest round of Vietnam peace talks in Paris. Earlier in the day, Kissinger and Le Duc Tho held their 15th meeting which lasted six hours. Kissinger stated that the U.S. and North Vietnam will remain in contact and will decide if further meetings are necessary.

In Washington, the apparent optimism of the Paris negotiators is not present. Press secretary Ron Ziegler implied that no final agreement on the cease-fire has yet been reached. Saigon is demanding that the terms of the cease-fire specify the South Vietnam government's retention of control over all South Vietnamese territory, whether now being held by North Vietnamese troops or not. Hanoi's official Communist newspaper's editorial blasted South Vietnam's insistence that South Vietnam be considered a separate, sovereign state. [CBS]
