[CBS 9:30] American Film Institute Salute To John Ford [special]
With John Wayne, James Stewart, Maureen O'Hara, Henry Fonda (Filmed appearance). A 90-minute special honoring the six-time Academy Award-winning director, taped at a dinner tendered Ford by the American Film Institute at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Charlton Heston, chairman of the board of trustees at the Institute, will emcee, followed by some of the top stars in Hollywood who owe a great deal of their success to the 78-year-old director. Also included will be a selection of scenes from many of Ford's great films compiled by director Peter Bogdanovich and the presentation to Ford of the Institute's first annual award for lifetime achievement in film-making.
