Alan Bates narrates a recounting of the Biblical tale of the two patriarchs, Jacob and Joseph. Filmed in various parts of Israel, the story deals with the birth of Jacob, the estrangement from his brother Esau, and the ultimate reconciliation. In the second segment, young Joseph, the favored son of Jacob, is sold by his greedy brothers into slavery and ends up in Egypt.
