  • The House overrode the President's veto of the hospital construction bill. President Nixon vetoed the $1.25 billion measure as being inflationary. [CBS]

  • Transportation Secretary John Volpe praised the patriotism of construction workers but asked that they no longer beat up antiwar demonstrators. [CBS]
  • Palestinian commandos denounced the U.S. Mideast peace plan and won't accept Israeli occupation. Secretary of State William Rogers outlined the Mideast proposal but would not discuss the sale of jets to Israel.
