  • Charles DeGaulle died of a heart attack at the age of 79. His funeral will be held Thursday in a Colombey, France, churchyard. President Nixon will attend the funeral mass in Paris. DeGaulle led the Free French Movement during World War II and was hailed as a national hero. DeGaulle resigned in 1946; chaos followed. The war in Algeria brought DeGaulle back to power in 1958 and he made peace with the Algerian rebels. He also got a new French constitution that gave the president all real power. [CBS]

  • South Vietnam Vice President Nguyen Cao Ky will visit the United States. [CBS]
  • A judge ruled that House witnesses can testify in My Lai trials. Lt. William Calley is charged with over 100 murders of civilians at My Lai. The judge in Sgt. David Mitchell's trial had said that House witnesses couldn't testify. [CBS]
  • $20 million will be spent to equip and train the National Guard for civil disorders. [CBS]
