Bonds Traded To Cardinals; Denny To Tribe

ST. LOUIS -- In literally a last-minute baseball trade, the St. Louis Cardinals acquired outfielder Bobby Bonds from the Cleveland Indians Friday night in exchange for pitcher John Denny and outfielder Jerry Mumphrey. In the last five years, Bonds has gone from San Francisco to the New York Yankees, to the California Angels, to the Chicago White Sox to the Texas Rangers to Cleveland and now to St. Louis. Cardinals spokesman Jim Toomey said the trade was completed at 11:59 p.m. EST, one minute before the trading deadline. Bonds hit .275 last season at Cleveland, with 25 homers and 85 RBIs, Denny had a 4.85 earned-run average and was 8-11 in 31 starts. Mumphrey batted .295 with three homers and 32 runs batted in.
