Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Indians 2 at Cleveland (day game):
The Orioles collected only five hits, but bunched four for three runs in the second inning and defeated the Indians, 3-2, behind the pitching of Mike Cuellar. Davey Johnson singled, stopped at third on a double by Andy Etchebarren and was out at the plate on a grounder by Cuellar, but Don Buford walked to load the bases. After Etchebarren scored on a passed ball, Mark Belanger singled to drive in two runs. Tony Horton homered for the Indians, who got only five hits off Cuellar.

Royals 2, A's 0 at Kansas City (night game):
The four-hit pitching of Dick Drago featured the Royals' 2-0 victory over the Athletics. The Royals nicked Catfish Hunter for their first run in the fourth inning on singles by Amos Otis and Ed Kirkpatrick around an infield out. A double by Bob Oliver, an infield out and a squeeze bunt by Luis Alcaraz produced the other run off reliever Diego Segui in the eighth.

Angels 6, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Bill Voss drove in four runs with a triple, two doubles and a single to lead the Angels to a 6-1 victory over the Brewers. Victims of a shutout in their opener, the Brewers scored their first run of the season in the seventh inning when Tommy Harper singled, stole second and crossed the plate on a double by Russ Snyder.

Tigers 3, Senators 0 at Washington (night game):
Making his debut in the A. L., Joe Niekro pitched the Tigers to a 3-0 victory over the Senators. The Tigers were held to two hits by George Brunet until the seventh inning when Willie Horton singled and Bill Freehan homered. The last run followed on a walk to Don Wert, single by Cesar Gutierrez, a sacrifice and a wild pitch by reliever Horacio Pina.

Reds 5, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Jim McGlothlin, who had an 8-16 record with the Angels last season, made a winning debut in N. L. by pitching the Reds to a 5-2 victory over the Dodgers. Bobby Tolan hit a single and a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs, one with his triple and the other with a grounder, to lead the Reds' attack.

Cardinals 7, Expos 2 at Montreal (day game):
The Cardinals' acquisition of Dick Allen from the Phillies in their search for power began paying off when the slugger smashed a homer and two doubles in a 7-2 victory over the Expos before an opening-game crowd of 21,173 at Jarry Park. After the Expos took a 2-0 lead against Bob Gibson in the first inning, Allen doubled and counted on a single by Joe Hague in the fourth, and then hit his homer to tie the score in the eighth. The Cardinals shattered the deadlock with five runs in the ninth, the final two tallies crossing the plate on Allen's second double.

Braves 6, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
With Rico Carty driving in four runs, the Braves defeated the Padres, 6-1. Carty accounted for one RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and then homered with two men on base in the eighth. Bob Tillman also homered for the Braves. Pat Jarvis limited the Padres to five hits and struck out 11, matching his game high for his career with the Braves.

Giants 5, Astros 4 at San Francisco (night game):
A three-run rally with two out in the eighth inning brought the Giants a 5-4 victory over the Astros. Doug Rader and Jim Beauchamp homered for the Astros. Hal Lanier singled and scored on a double by Steve Whitaker to open the Giants' comeback. Ron Hunt followed with a single to tie the score at 4-4 and Al Gallagher then doubled for his third hit of game to drive in the winning run.
