Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 at Boston (day game):
A homer by Boog Powell for his second RBI of the contest enabled the Orioles to edge the Red Sox, 3-2, in a Patriots' Day morning game which was halted by rain after Brooks Robinson had doubled to open the seventh inning. A triple by Mark Belanger and infield out by Frank Robinson produced the Orioles' initial run in the first inning. After the Red Sox went ahead, 2-1, Frank Robinson doubled and Powell singled to tie score in the fourth. Powell followed with his homer in the sixth.

Angels 5, Brewers 4 at California (night game):
Coming through with his third hit of the game, Roger Repoz singled with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, scoring Alex Johnson, to give the Angels a 5-4 victory over the Brewers. Danny Walton batted in three runs for the Brewers with a homer, double and single. Johnson singled in the 10th and, after a sacrifice and intentional pass to Billy Cowan, Aurelio Rodriguez beat out an infield hit to load the bases for Repoz.

Royals 4, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
After Ed Kirkpatrick and Bob Oliver combined to save the Royals from defeat, Kirkpatrick tripled and scored on an error in the 11th inning and Oliver followed with his second homer of the game to beat the Athletics, 4-2. Dick Green and Dave Duncan homered for the A's, but a possible shutout victory slipped from Blue Moon Odom's hands when Kirkpatrick singled in the ninth and Oliver tied the score with a two-out homer. After Kirkpatrick's triple in the 11th, Amos Otis walked. Otis then stole second and when Duncan threw wildly, Kirkpatrick scored. Otis reached third but was out when Oliver missed an attempted squeeze bunt. Quickly making amends, Oliver hit a home run on the next pitch.

Yankees 11, Senators 2 at Washington (night game):
Three-run homers by Danny Cater and Ron Woods helped power the Yankees to an 11-2 victory over the Senators. Cater connected in the first inning when the Yankees broke away with five runs. Woods capped the scoring with his drive in the seventh.

Reds 6, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
In a show of power, the Reds smashed three homers, a triple and three doubles among their 10 hits in a 6-2 victory over the Braves. Tony Perez doubled and Johnny Bench homered in the second inning. One out later, Hal McRae also hit for the circuit. McRae tripled and scored on a single by Dave Concepcion in the fourth. Then, in the seventh, Tommy Helms singled and Perez homered. The Braves got their runs off Jim Merritt in the ninth on a double by Tony Gonzalez and a round-tripper by Rico Carty.

Pirates 3, Astros 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Willie Stargell, going into the game with an .037 average on one hit in 27 times at bat, walloped a tape-measure homer with a man on base in the sixth inning to give the Pirates a 3-1 victory over the Astros. Stargell also accounted for the Pirates' first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. His homer, after a walk to Richie Hebner and forceout by Roberto Clemente, cleared the right-field roof at Forbes Field and was only the 17th time that batting feat had been accomplished since the park was opened in 1909.
