Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 9, Twins 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Terry Crowley, playing in the outfield while Frank Robinson was rested, hit his first major league homer, driving in three runs, and Dave May added a bases-loaded triple to lead the Orioles to a 6-3 victory over the Twins. Crowley singled and scored in the third before rapping his round-tripper in the fourth. May's triple came in the seventh when the Orioles wrapped up the scoring.

Red Sox 8, Angels 3 at Boston (night game):
Carl Yastrzemski, who hit only one homer in the first 19 games played by the Red Sox this season, smashed two for the circuit to help beat the Angels, 8-3. Yastrzemski started his slugging after Reggie Smith singled in the first inning and added his other drive with the bases empty in the fifth. George Scott and Smith also contributed round-trippers to the Red Sox, who won their fifth game in a row.

White Sox 13, Tigers 6 at Chicago (night game):
The White Sox erupted for their biggest inning so far this season, scoring eight runs in the sixth, to defeat the Tigers, 13-6. Syd O'Brien started the outburst with an infield hit, Duane Josephson walked, Gail Hopkins singled and Ken Berry doubled to tie the score at 4-4. After Tom Timmerman relieved Les Cain, Bobby Knoop smashed a three-run homer. Joe Horlen kept the inning going with a single, Walt Williams walked and Luis Aparicio beat out a bunt to load the bases. Carlos May hit a sacrifice fly off John Hiller, Horlen scoring. After O'Brien fouled out, Josephson singled to plate Williams and Aparicio with the final runs of the frame.

Indians 7, Royals 5 at Kansas City (night game):
Sending eight men to the plate, the Indians scored four runs in an eighth-inning rally to defeat the Royals, 7-5. With Lou Piniella hitting a three-run homer in the first inning, the Royals were ahead, 5-3, before the Indians came back. Ted Uhlaender doubled home the first run in the eighth, Tony Horton knocked in two with a double as a pinch-hitter for Phil Hennigan and Vada Pinson capped the rally with a triple.

Yankees 6, Brewers 3 at New York (night game):
Although failing to last the route for the sixth straight time, Mel Stottlemyre gained his second victory of the season when the Yankees defeated the Brewers, 6-3. Jerry Kenney batted in two runs for the Yankees with a single and triple. Bobby Murcer accounted for two more RBIs with a pair of singles. Danny Walton produced all of the Brewers' runs with a single in the sixth inning and a homer in the eighth.

A's 12, Senators 5 at Washington (night game):
Catfish Hunter aided his own cause with a bases-loaded triple as the Athletics ended their five-game losing streak by defeating the Senators, 12-5. Rick Monday, Felipe Alou and Don Mincher singled and Dick Green homered to give the A's four runs in the fourth inning. Hunter hit his triple in the sixth and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris. Hunter left the game after surrendering a homer to Aurelio Rodriguez in the Senators' half of the sixth. Mudcat Grant, who pitched the rest of the way, gave up a homer by Lee Maye in the seventh.

Braves 3, Cubs 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Continuing his comeback, Phil Niekro pitched the Braves to a 3-2 victory over the Cubs. The triumph was the second in successive complete games for the knuckleballer, who lost his first four decisions of season. Hank Aaron started the Braves' scoring with a homer in the first inning. Sonny Jackson singled in the fifth, took the third on a wild pickoff throw by Joe Decker and counted on a sacrifice fly by Tony Gonzalez. The Braves added what proved to be winning run in the fifth when Rico Carty singled and scored on a double by Felix Millan. The Cubs' runs off Niekro came on homers by Decker and Billy Williams.

Reds 6, Pirates 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
Although Willie Stargell hit a grand-slam homer, the Reds were able to defeat the Pirates, 6-4. Johnny Bench homered for the Reds after Bobby Tolan and Tony Perez walked in the fourth inning. With other RBIs on singles by Tommy Helms, Perez and Pete Rose, the Reds held a 6-0 lead before Stargell's slam off Wayne Simpson in the seventh. When Roberto Clemente singled for the Pirates with two out in the ninth, Manager Sparky Anderson of the Reds sent reliever Wayne Granger to left field and called on Don Gullett, who struck out Stargell to end the game.

Expos 3, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Carl Morton, a former outfielder in the minor leagues, allowed only three hits and pitched the Expos to a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers. Two unearned runs in the first inning gave the Expos their edge. Mack Jones drove in the tainted tallies with a double after Ron Brand bunted safely, Maury Wills booted a grounder by Rusty Staub and Jack Hiatt walked to load the bases.

Mets 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Tom Seaver posted his fifth straight victory and Donn Clendenon drove in both runs as the Mets edged the Padres, 2-1. Tommie Agee singled in the second inning and stopped at third on a double by Bud Harrelson. After Art Shamsky was passed intentionally, Clendenon singled for his RBIs. Steve Huntz homered in the sixth for the Padres' run off Seaver, who won his 15th regular-season game in succession since starting the string last August 9.

Giants 3, Phillies 1 at San Francisco (night game):
The two-hit pitching of Rich Robertson and a two-run homer by Bobby Bonds combined to bring the Giants a 3-1 victory over the Phillies. Bonds singled in the first inning and, after stealing second and the third, eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk to Ken Henderson. Hal Lanier was safe on an error in the second and was forced by Robertson on an attempted sacrifice before Bonds hit his homer. The Phillies' run was unearned on two errors by Ron Hunt around pair of walks.

Astros 9, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Led by Jesus Alou, who collected three hits and figured in the scoring of five runs, the Astros broke an eight-game losing streak by defeating the Cardinals, 9-3. Joe Morgan singled in the first inning, Alou doubled and both crossed plate on a single by Tommy Davis. The Astros loaded the bases in the fourth and after Morgan walked to force in one run, Alou cleared the sacks with a double. Alou also singled and scored when the Astros added their final two runs in the ninth.
