Today's scores and summaries:

Twins 4, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (day game):
After accepting a gift of two runs in the sixth inning, the Twins scored twice on a homer by Harmon Killebrew in the ninth and beat the Orioles, 4-3. With two men on and two out in the sixth, Davey Johnson bobbled a grounder by Tony Oliva and then threw wildly, allowing the Twins to tie the game at 2-2. Merv Rettenmund sent the Orioles ahead again with a homer in the eighth, but Oliva singled in the ninth and Killebrew decided the outcome with his round-tripper. Jim Kaat was the winning pitcher with Ron Perranoski's help.

Tigers 6, White Sox 5 at Chicago (day game):
Al Kaline homered with a man on base in the seventh inning and then drove in another run with a single in the ninth to enable the Tigers to defeat the White Sox, 6-5. Willie Horton also homered for the Tigers. The White Sox loaded the bases in the ninth and scored on a wild pitch, but Walt Williams, who had collected four hits in five previous trips, grounded out to end the game.

Indians 6, Royals 3 at Kansas City (day game):
A homer by Graig Nettles with two men on base in the sixth inning was the Indians' potent blow in a 6-3 victory over the Royals. With the aid of a two-run smash by Lou Piniella, the Royals had a 3-2 lead before Nettles connected. The Indians added a run in the ninth on a single by Roy Foster and triple by Russ Nagelson.

[DH] Yankees 8, Brewers 7 (day game) / Yankees 4, Brewers 2 at New York (day game):
The hitting of Gene Michael in the first game and a key double by Roy White in the second game enabled the Yankees to sweep a doubleheader with the Brewers, 8-7 and 4-2. Michael had three hits and drove in three runs in the opener. The Yankees wiped out a 7-5 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning. Danny Cater batted in one with a triple and pinch-hitter Thurman Munson tied the score with another three-bagger. Michael then doubled to plate what proved to be the winning run. In the nightcap, the Brewers took a 2-1 lead on a homer by Jerry McNertney, but Horace Clarke was safe on an error in the Yankees' seventh, Bobby Murcer walked and White sent both runners home with a double. White stole third and scored the final run on a throwing error by McNertney.

[DH] A's 3, Senators 1 (day game) / Senators 6, A's 4 at Washington (day game):
Mike Epstein broke a tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning to carry the Senators to a 6-4 victory in splitting a doubleheader with the Athletics, who won the first game, 3-1. Blue Moon Odom was announced as the Athletics' starting pitcher for the opener, but reinjured his ailing right elbow while warming up. The umpires, however, ordered him to take the mound. After retiring the first batter on a grounder, Odom yielded to Rollie Fingers, who hurled the rest of the way and checked the Senators on five hits. Reggie Jackson homered for the A's. Epstein's winning smash for the Senators in the nightcap came with two out after a walk to Frank Howard.

Reds 11, Pirates 7 at Cincinnati (day game):
The slugging of Johnny Bench, who hit a homer and two doubles, led the Reds' attack in an 11-7 victory over the Pirates. Bench's first double helped the Reds score two runs in the first inning. The All-Star catcher hit his homer with two men on base in the third. After the Pirates tightened the game with the aid of a round-tripper by Bob Robertson, Bench doubled in the seventh to set off a four-run outburst by the Reds. Two of the runners raced home on a wild pitch by Joe Gibbon.

Dodgers 15, Expos 1 at Los Angeles (day game):
The Dodgers broke loose on their biggest scoring outburst of the season so far and romped over the Expos, 15-1. Billy Grabarkewitz batted in five runs, getting credit for his first RBI on a pass with the bases loaded in the third inning. The rookie drove in two runs with a double in the fourth and batted in two more with another double in the seventh.

[DH] Padres 4, Mets 3 (day game) / Mets 3, Padres 2 at San Diego (day game):
With Cito Gaston in the key role, the Padres defeated the Mets, 4-3, in the 10-inning opener of a doubleheader, but the defending world champions came back to win the nightcap, 3-2. Gaston homered in the fourth inning of the lidlifter and then batted in the winning run with a single in the tenth. Chris Cannizzaro beat out an infield hit to start the overtime stanza, Dave Campbell sacrificed and, after an intentional pass to Steve Huntz, Gaston singled. Tommie Agee, who batted safely in his 15th straight game, singled for the Mets in the seventh inning of the nightcap and scored the winning run on a double by Joe Foy.

[DH] Phillies 8, Giants 6 (day game) / Phillies 13, Giants 6 at San Francisco (day game):
The pitching and hitting of Lowell Palmer earned a star's designation for the reliever as the Phillies defeated the Giants, 13-6, to complete a sweep of a doubleheader after winning the first game, 8-6, in 13 innings. Willie Mays and Bobby Bonds homered in the seventh inning of the lidlifter to put the Giants ahead, 6-2, but Deron Johnson came through with a pinch-homer for the Phillies with two men on base in the eighth and Jim Hutto hit his first major league homer to tie score in the ninth. Johnny Briggs broke the deadlock with a circuit clout in 13th and Tony Taylor later drove in another run with a single to clinch the decision. In the nightcap, the Giants scored five runs and kayoed Woodie Fryman with one out in the first inning. Palmer, who had pitched two hitless innings in the opener, returned to the mound and checked the Giants on four hits and one the run rest of the way. The Phillies tied the score with a five-run outburst in the second, including a double by Palmer. Palmer singled and scored in the fourth and then doubled with the bases loaded, driving in three runs, when the Phillies counted six times in the fifth.

[DH] Cardinals 7, Astros 4 (day game) / Astros 8, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (day game):
Denny Lemaster, who had a 3-0 record against the Cardinals last season, continued his mastery with an 8-1 victory to give the Astros a split of a doubleheader. The Cardinals won the first game, 7-4. Jerry Johnson, recalled from Tulsa (American Association), made his first appearance in a St. Louis uniform in the lidlifter and saved the victory for Nelson Briles with three innings of one-hit relief. Lou Brock and Leron Lee homered for the Cardinals, Brock's round-tripper coming on an inside-the-park drive with two men on base. Denis Menke homered for the Astros. In the nightcap, the Astros backed Lemaster with a 15-hit attack, including a circuit clout by Johnny Edwards with two aboard.
