Orioles 7, Royals 6 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles continued to exercise their hex over the Royals when Frank Robinson smashed a homer with two men on base and two out in the ninth inning to beat the expansion club, 7-6. The victory was the Orioles' 17th in succession over the Royals since a loss in their the first meeting on May 9, 1969. Boog Powell homered with two on base for the Orioles in the first inning, but the Royals batted their way to a 6-4 lead with aid of a homer and single by Bob Oliver, who drove in four runs. In the Orioles' ninth, Terry Crowley walked with one out and Merv Rettenmund drew a pass with two away before Robinson hit his homer.

Angels 8, Senators 0 at California (night game):
Doling out four scattered singles, Tom Murphy pitched the Angels to an 8-0 victory over the Senators. The Angels piled up 13 hits, including a triple and three singles by Jim Spencer, who had a perfect night at bat.

Twins 9, Tigers 6 at Detroit (night game):
After taking a 7-0 lead with the aid of homers by Tony Oliva and Harmon Killebrew, the Twins survived rallies by the Tigers and emerged with a 9-6 victory. Jim Perry, pitching for the Twins, gave up a leadoff single to Dick McAuliffe and then held the Tigers hitless until being kayoed during a four-run uprising in the seventh inning. Bill Freehan homered for the Tigers in the ninth. Oliva hit his round-tripper with a man on base in the first and Killebrew connected with two aboard in the seventh. Rod Carew and Oliva worked a double steal in the eighth, Carew scoring.

Brewers 5, Red Sox 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
Rookie Danny Walton, who was Player of the Year in the minor leagues in 1969, hit his ninth homer of the season to provide the Brewers' deciding run in a 5-1 victory over the Red Sox. After Walton's blast made it 2-0 in the seventh inning, Carl Yastrzemski batted in the Red Sox run with a single in the eighth. The ball struck Lew Krausse on his left shoulder, forcing the Brewers' starter to leave the game. The Brewers loaded the bases in their half of the eighth and clinched the verdict with three runs on a grounder by Russ Snyder and wild throw by Mike Andrews.

Yankees 7, A's 3 at Oakland (night game):
Switch-hitter Roy White smashed a pair of three-run homers, one batting lefthanded in the first inning and the other swinging righthanded in the eighth, to power the Yankees to a 7-3 victory over the Athletics. Horace Clarke and Bobby Murcer were on base with singles ahead of each of White's wallops.

Reds 5, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs' streak of 10 victories at home this season was snapped with a 5-2 loss to the Reds. The defeat was the sixth in a row for the Cubs, who came off a road trip with five straight losses, while the Reds posted their eighth victory in succession. The Reds, after taking a 2-1 lead, gained their decision with three runs in the seventh inning on a single by Lee May, homer by Bernie Carbo, single by Dave Concepcion, sacrifice by Jim McGlothlin and double by Pete Rose.

Pirates 9, Astros 5 at Houston (night game):
The Pirates scored four runs with two homers in the first inning and added four more with only one single in the eighth to defeat the Astros, 9-5, snapping a seven-game losing streak. Freddie Patek and Matty Alou singled and Willie Stargell and Bob Robertson hit back-to-back homers in the first. Jose Pagan walked in the eighth and, after a sacrifice, pinch-runner Johnny Jeter scored on a single by Al Oliver to break the 5-5 tie. After a pair of passes loaded the bases, Oliver scored on a wild pitch and two more runs followed on a passed ball.

Expos 15, Giants 8 at Montreal (night game):
Breaking loose on the biggest scoring outburst in their two-year history, the Expos outslugged the Giants, 15-8. The Expos' previous record for most runs in a game was 11, achieved four times last season. The Expos' 15 hits included three apiece by Jim Fairey and Carl Morton. Fairey batted in three runs with a homer and added an RBI with a single. Mack Jones also homered for the Expos. Willie Mays had a homer for the Giants.

Dodgers 7, Mets 4 at New York (night game):
Hitting for the cycle, Wes Parker capped the batting feat with a triple in the 10th inning when the Dodgers scored three runs to defeat the Mets, 7-4. Ted Sizemore was safe on an error to open the 10th and Willie Davis beat out a bunt. Sizemore was trapped off second on a pickoff throw by catcher Duffy Dyer, but raced to third and slid in safely. Parker then broke the 4-4 tie with his triple and crossed plate himself on a sacrifice fly by Billy Grabarkewitz.

Padres 8, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Two homers by Nate Colbert and one by Steve Huntz marked the Padres' 8-2 victory over the Phillies. Colbert homered off Chris Short in the second inning and connected again off Dick Selma in the ninth. In between, Huntz rapped his round-tripper off Lowell Palmer with a man on base in the fourth.
