Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 7, Orioles 5 at Baltimore (night game):
A homer by Ken McMullen broke a tie in the 11th inning and the Angels added another run on a triple by Tommie Reynolds and a single by Tom Egan to clinch a 7-5 victory over the Orioles. A two-run homer by Dave McNally in the fifth and solo swat by Brooks Robinson in the seventh gave the Orioles a 3-2 lead before the Angels went ahead in the eighth, scoring one run on doubles by Sandy Alomar and Alex Johnson and two on a bases-loaded single by Chico Ruiz. An error and doubles by Davey Johnson and Elrod Hendricks produced the tying pair for the Orioles in the ninth.

White Sox 4, Red Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
Bill Melton hit two homers and Tommy McCraw batted in two runs less dramatically with an infield grounder and a single to enable the White Sox to defeat the Red Sox, 4-2. Jerry Janeski, who pitched the route, gave up the Red Sox runs on a single by Reggie Smith and a homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the sixth inning.

A's 5, Indians 2 at Cleveland (night game):
The hitting of Sal Bando, who drove in four runs, paced the Athletics to a 5-2 victory over the Indians. Bando, who walked and scored the A's first run in the second inning, homered with two men on base in the third. After hitting a wasted triple in the fifth, Bando singled for his fourth RBI in the seventh. Vada Pinson produced the Indians' runs with a homer in the ninth inning to chase Catfish Hunter, who allowed only three hits. Mudcat Grant, in relief, gave up a pair of singles before retiring the side.

Tigers 8, Brewers 3 at Detroit (night game):
Willie Horton hammered three homers, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs to power the Tigers to an 8-3 victory over the Brewers. Danny Walton batted in two runs for the Brewers with a single in the first inning, but in the Tigers' half, a single by Dick McAuliffe and passes to Elliott Maddox and Al Kaline loaded the bases. Skip Lockwood replaced Ray Peters and struck out Norm Cash, but Horton then connected for his grand slam. The Tigers' slugging outfielder homered again after a walk to Cash in the sixth and ended his big night with a solo swat in the eighth.

Royals 8, Senators 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Playing their first game under Bob Lemon, who replaced Charlie Metro as manager, the Royals defeated the Senators, 8-1. The Royals took command at the outset, scoring four runs in the first inning on a double by Pat Kelly, a pass to Paul Schaal, back-to-back triples by Amos Otis and Bob Oliver and a sacrifice fly by Lou Piniella. Oliver homered in the third.

Yankees 5, Twins 2 at New York (night game):
Stan Bahnsen limited the Twins to four hits while the Yankees collected 12 off Jim Kaat to gain a 5-2 victory. The Twins counted their pair in the second on a walk, a double by Jim Holt and single by Leo Cardenas, but Bobby Murcer tied the score with a bases-loaded single in the home half. The Yankees filled the sacks again in the sixth and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Gene Michael. Two unearned runs in the seventh iced the verdict.

Mets 2, Astros 1 at Houston (night game):
Ending his personal four-game losing streak, Tom Seaver gave up only three hits and pitched the Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Astros. Tom Griffin extended his mastery of the Mets to 33 consecutive scoreless innings before his string was broken when Wayne Garrett homered in the fifth. Tommie Agee then singled and raced home with the Mets' second run on a double by Bud Harrelson. Denis Menke homered for the Astros' marker in the seventh.

Cardinals 4, Dodgers 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Coming out of the bullpen for his first start of the season, Chuck Taylor pitched the Cardinals to a 4-0 victory over the Dodgers. The righthander, who had made 21 relief appearances, limited the Dodgers to five hits. The Cardinals broke the six-game winning streak of Claude Osteen. Lou Brock rapped two hits, stole two bases and scored two runs.

Reds 6, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
With the help of three relief pitchers, the Reds defeated the Expos, 6-4. After Gary Nolan was lifted with one out in the seventh inning, Don Gullett and Clay Carroll each retired one batter. Wayne Granger then hurled the last two stanzas and gained his 13th save. Johnny Bench drove in two of the Reds' runs with sacrifice flies and also scored once after reaching base on a walk. Bernie Carbo hit a homer in the fifth innng.

Phillies 2, Braves 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Jim Bunning and Dick Selma, who divided the pitching chores, yielded only one hit apiece and catcher-coach Doc Edwards batted in both runs with a single as the Phillies defeated the Braves, 2-1. Deron Johnson walked in the second inning, Larry Bowa doubled and both scored on Edwards' hit. Bunning injured his left side running out a single in the fifth. Clete Boyer ended an 0-for-29 slump by hitting a homer for the Braves' run in the sixth. Bunning then struck out Bob Tillman before leaving the game in favor of Selma, who allowed the Braves' other hit, a single by Gil Garrido, in the ninth.

Cubs 7, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
Paul Popovich, subbing for Don Kessinger, who was away on military duty, led off the game with a homer to spark a four-run outburst as the Cubs defeated the Expos, 7-3. After Popovich's poke, the Cubs loaded the bases on a pass to Glenn Beckert, a double by Billy Williams and an intentional walk to Johnny Callison. Ron Santo seized the opportunity and drove in two runs with a single. A walk to Jack Hiatt reloaded the bases and the fourth run of inning counted on a grounder by Cleo James. Popovich also had two singles in the game and drove in another run. Ollie Brown and Chris Cannizzaro clouted homers for the Padres.

Pirates 5, Giants 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Steve Blass, who had lost seven straight decisions, pitched himself back into the Pirates' winning column by defeating the Giants, 5-1, with a five-hitter.
