Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 6, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
Hot-hitting Roy White whacked a single, double and homer, driving in four runs, to lead the streaking Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the White Sox. With the Chisox ahead, 2-1, Horace Clarke doubled in the sixth inning, Bobby Murcer hit a pop single and White sent them home with a double. After taking third on the throw to the plate, White also scored on a wild pitch. White hit his homer in the eighth following a single by Murcer. The victory was the sixth straight for the Yankees. White's splurge gave him 11 hits in his last 14 trips to the plate, representing a .786 streak.

Indians 9, Angels 2 at Cleveland (night game):
The first Indians' pitcher, other than Sam McDowell, to turn in a complete game this season, Rich Hand traveled the route to beat the Angels, 9-2. Ray Fosse and Roy Foster each smashed a two-run homer to support the rookie righthander, who hurled a nine-hitter and drove in a run himself with a single in the sixth inning. Jim Spencer homered for the Angels. McDowell had eight complete games to his credit.

Tigers 5, A's 1 at Detroit (night game):
Mike Kilkenny allowed only four hits and struck out 11 in pitching the Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the Athletics. Willie Horton, hitting in his 16th straight game, rapped two singles and drove in one run. Jim Northrup accounted for two RBIs with a homer in the sixth inning and a single in the seventh.

Red Sox 7, Royals 5 at Kansas City (night game):
Mike Andrews hit the first grand-slam homer of his major league career to carry the Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over the Royals. The Red Sox also had a homer by Rico Petrocelli, accounting for their first two runs of the game. With the score tied, 2-2, the Royals lifted Bill Butler after George Scott walked to open the ninth inning. Bob Johnson relieved and walked Billy Conigliaro. Following a sacrifice, Dick Schofield was passed intentionally to load the bases, setting the stage for Andrews' smash. The Red Sox added another run before the inning ended on a double by Carl Yastrzemski and a single by Reggie Smith. The Royals' three-run rally in their half of the ninth served only to tighten the score.

Twins 7, Senators 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Jim Perry, who pitched a six-hitter while collecting three singles himself, had plenty of batting support from his teammates as the Twins defeated the Senators, 7-3. George Mitterwald and Tony Oliva each homered with a man on base and Cesar Tovar drove in two runs with a triple. Leo Cardenas gathered four of the Twins' 12 hits. Aurelio Rodriguez homered for the Senators.

Dodgers 1, Pirates 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
A homer by Billy Grabarkewitz in the fourth inning enabled Don Sutton to pitch the Dodgers to a 1-0 victory over the Pirates in a four-hit duel with Bob Veale.

Braves 7, Expos 5 at Montreal (night game):
After scoring all their runs in the first three innings, the Braves outlasted the Expos, 7-5. The Braves scored three times in the first on a triple by Gil Garrido, single by Hank Aaron, double by Orlando Cepeda and single by Bob Didier. Four singles, together with a walk and two wild pitches, produced another trio in the second. Rico Carty doubled to drive in the Braves' final run in the third. The Braves were forced to call on four pitchers before the game ended, with Milt Pappas getting credit for the decision in relief of starter George Stone.

Mets 8, Reds 1 at New York (night game):
Jim McAndrew, who remained on the mound despite two rain delays totaling one hour, seven minutes, pitched the Mets to an 8-1 victory over the Reds. After the Reds scored in the first inning on doubles by Pete Rose and Johnny Bench, the Mets went ahead in their half with a homer by Tommie Agee, a double by Bud Harrelson, an infield out and a sacrifice fly by Donn Clendenon. Agee batted in another with a single in the seventh and Cleon Jones, who had three hits, capped the scoring with a two-run double.

Phillies 2, Astros 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Breaking up a 1-1 duel, the Phillies scored on a bases-loaded single by Doc Edwards in the 13th inning to defeat the Astros, 2-1. The Phillies' first run counted in the seventh on a triple by Ron Stone and a single by Terry Harmon. Rick Wise, who developed a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand, yielded the mound to Dick Selma in the eighth and the Astros promptly tied the score on doubles by Keith Lampard and Tommy Davis. In the 13th, Oscar Gamble singled and advanced on a sacrifice. Following an intentional pass to Stone, Harmon lined out, but Scott Reid walked to load the bases before Edwards laced his single off Bouton.

Padres 4, Cardinals 0 at San Diego (night game):
The superb relief pitching of Dave Roberts featured the Padres' 4-0 victory over the Cardinals. Mike Corkins, who started for the Padres, pulled a groin muscle and left the game after one inning. Roberts pitched the rest of the way and handcuffed the Cardinals on six hits. The Padres exploded for their runs off Steve Carlton in the seventh. Ivan Murrell snapped the scoreless duel with a homer and, after a single by Tommy Dean and two walks loaded the bases, Cito Gaston slammed a three-run double.

Giants 3, Cubs 2 at San Francisco (night game):
The battery of Gaylord Perry and Dick Dietz proved a winning combination as the Giants defeated the Cubs, 3-2. Perry pitched a three-hitter and Dietz batted in the Giants' runs with a homer in the second inning. The catcher's blow off Bill Hands came after Willie McCovey walked and Ken Henderson was safe on an error by shortstop Roger Metzger, playing his first major league game. Billy Williams doubled and Ron Santo homered for the Cubs' counters in the seventh.
