Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 5, Orioles 1 at Boston (night game):
Tony Conigliaro and Rico Petrocelli homered on consecutive pitches in the fifth inning to support the three-hit hurling of Ray Culp as the Red Sox stopped the Orioles on their five-game winning streak, 5-1. Carl Yastrzemski doubled before Conigliaro and Petrocelli teed off on Jim Palmer. Conigliaro also had another RBI in the game, driving in a run with a single in the third.

White Sox 7, Angels 3 at California (night game):
A three-run homer by Bill Melton in the seventh inning and a three-run double by Syd O'Brien in the ninth carried the White Sox to a 7-3 victory over the Angels. Melton's homer followed an infield hit by Luis Aparicio and a pass to Carlos May. A double by Ed Herrmann, safe bunt by Tommy McCraw and a pass loaded the bases for O'Brien's double. Billy Cowan hit a two-run homer for the Angels.

Brewers 4, Twins 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Manager Dave Bristol, who had used five pinch-hitters previously in the game, went to his bench again and called on Gus Gil, who responded with a two-run double with two out in the ninth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Twins. With George Mitterwald hitting a two-run homer, the Twins held a 3-1 lead before Phil Roof narrowed the gap with a round-tripper for the Brewers in the seventh. Roof was hit by a pitched ball in the ninth and Tommy Harper walked ahead of Gil's winning double.

Royals 7, A's 5 at Oakland (night game):
Reggie Jackson misjudged a line drive by Lou Piniella with the bases loaded in the first inning and the ball got past the center fielder for a triple to start the Royals off to a 7-5 victory over the Athletics. Piniella, after reaching third, scored on a wild pitch. Cookie Rojas homered for the Royals in the second and their winning runs followed in the fifth when Joe Keough singled with the bases loaded. Joe Rudi and Jackson hit homers for the A's, Rudi's blow coming with a mate aboard.

Senators 6, Tigers 2 at Washington (night game):
The Senators snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Tigers, 6-2. Tim Cullen, Paul Casanova and Mike Epstein homered for the Senators. Casanova, who drove in a run with a single to tie the score at 2-2 in the fourth, broke the deadlock with his circuit clout in the seventh. Mickey Lolich accounted for the Tigers' tallies with a bases-loaded single, but the lefthander continued in a pitching slump, drawing his third straight loss.

Dodgers 7, Braves 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Bill Singer, still recuperating from an attack of hepatitis, pitched no-hit ball for 7 2/3 innings before giving up a single by Clete Boyer and leaving the game as the Dodgers defeated the Braves, 7-0. Pete Mikkelsen, who also was a victim of hepatitis, relieved and gave up another hit, a single by Gil Garrido in the ninth. The Dodgers, who got their first run on a homer by Wes Parker in the fourth, clinched the decision with six runs in the fifth. Singer drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in the first counter. A double by Billy Grabarkewitz and single by Manny Mota each accounted for two runs and Parker then doubled to plate Mota with the final marker.

Mets 12, Cubs 10 at Chicago (day game):
Duffy Dyer, batting after Ron Swoboda doubled to open the 10th inning, failed in two bunt attempts and then swung away at a 3-and-2 pitch for a homer to give the Mets a 12-10 victory over the Cubs. Bill Williams drove in the Cubs' first four runs with a single and a homer before the Mets exploded for seven runs in the fourth for an 8-4 lead. The Cubs added one run in their half and went ahead with five in the fifth. The Mets tied the score in the ninth on a pass to Bud Harrelson, forceout by Cleon Jones, single by Art Shamsky, an infield out and a single by Ken Boswell.

Reds 5, Giants 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
After the first 10 batters went down in order against Mike McCormick, the Reds exploded with three homers to beat the Giants, 5-3. Tommy Helms singled for the first hit off McCormick in the fourth inning and Tony Perez follwed with a circuit clout. Johnny Bench doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield out before Hal McRae unloaded a homer. Lee May added the Reds' third round-tripper in the sixth inning. Willie McCovey hit a homer with a man on base for the Giants.

Astros 2, Padres 1 at Houston (night game):
Jim Wynn, who had only three hits in 33 previous times at bat, broke out of his slump with two doubles and a single in four trips and figured in the scoring of both of the Astros' runs in a 2-1 victory over the Padres. Wynn hit his first double in the seventh inning, reached third on a sacrifice and counted on an error. Then, in the eighth, after Bob Watson tripled, Wynn doubled again. The Padres loaded the bases against Jack Billingham with one out in the ninth, but scored only on a sacrifice fly by Steve Huntz before Ivan Murrell struck out.

Expos 2, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Dan McGinn, who was the winner with a helping hand from Claude Raymond, also scored the Expos' deciding run in a 2-1 victory over the Phillies. The Expos picked up an unearned run off Jim Bunning in the first inning and added their other counter in the fifth when McGinn singled and Marv Staehle doubled. McGinn was removed after Rick Joseph and Jim Hutto singled and Oscar Gamble sacrificed in the ninth. Ron Stone got an infield hit off Raymond to drive in a run, but the reliever retired the next two batters to save the victory for McGinn.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates erupted for five runs in the first inning and defeated the Cardinals, 7-2. Matty Alou opened with a single and Richie Hebner was safe on a fumble by Julian Javier, ending the Cardinals' string of 87 innings without an error. Roberto Clemente and Al Oliver followed with run-scoring singles, Bob Robertson tripled for two more and then beat the throw to the plate on Dave Cash's grounder to Dal Maxvill. Robertson added two doubles to his night's bag of hits and drove in another run in the second.
