Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Indians 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Boog Powell pounded two homers and Don Buford belted one to enable the Orioles to snap a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Indians. Buford walked ahead of Powell's first homer of the game in the third. The pair then joined in hitting solo swats in the fifth to provide Dave McNally with the margin for his 12th victory of the season.

Senators 3, Red Sox 1 at Boston (night game):
The Senators, fresh from three come-from-behind victories over the Orioles, rallied for three runs with two out in the seventh inning to beat the Red Sox, 3-1. Sonny Siebert batted in the Red Sox run with a single in the second, but then paved way for his defeat by passing Aurelio Rodriguez and Bernie Allen with two out in the seventh. After Ed Brinkman singled to drive in the tying run, Vicente Romo relieved. Paul Casanova greeted the change in pitchers with a single, sending the Nats ahead, and the third run followed on a wild pitch by Romo.

A's 4, White Sox 3 at Chicago (night game):
After Bert Campaneris homered with two men on base in the third inning, the Athletics added a run in the sixth and edged the White Sox, 4-3. The deciding tally counted when Reggie Jackson singled, stole second and crossed the plate on a single by Joe Rudi. Carlos May hit a homer with one aboard for the White Sox in the eighth.

Tigers 5, Yankees 3 at Detroit (night game):
With two out in the third inning, Les Cain hit the first homer of his major league career and the Tigers followed with two more round-trippers in the same stanza to defeat the Yankees, 5-3. After Cain connected, Mickey Stanley also hit for the circuit. Dick McAuliffe singled and Al Kaline clouted the Tigers' third homer. Another run was added when Willie Horton reached second on an error by Gene Michael and Jim Northrup singled. Ron Woods had a homer for the Yankees. Cain gained his sixth straight victory with the assistance of Tom Timmerman, who relieved in the eighth. The Tigers turned in five double plays to stifle the Yankees.

Brewers 5, Angels 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
Danny Walton, who had not hit for the circuit since June 13, broke out of his slugging slump with two homers to bat the Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the Angels. The rookie's first homer of the game in the third inning tied the score at 3-3 and his second with a man on base in the eighth enabled the Brewers to squeeze out their decision. Alex Johnson rapped a round-tripper for the Angels with a man on base in the first inning.

Twins 8, Royals 5 at Minnesota (night game):
Coming to bat as a pinch-hitter, Rick Renick delivered a grand-slam homer in the sixth inning to spark the Twins to an 8-5 victory over the Royals. With Paul Schaal hitting for the circuit, the Royals held a 5-1 lead before Harmon Killebrew opened the Twins' rally with a homer. A single by Jim Holt and passes to Leo Cardenas and George Mitterwald then loaded the bases for Renick's blast off Bob Johnson. The Twins added two clinching tallies in the seventh when Killebrew and Rich Reese singled and Holt tripled.

Braves 8, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
With Commissioner Kuhn and N. L. President Feeney on hand, a crowd of 51,050 turned out for the opening of Cincinnati's new Riverfront Stadium, but the Braves spoiled the occasion by defeating the Reds, 8-2. Hank Aaron had the honor of hitting the first homer in the new park, connecting for the circuit with a man on base in the first inning. Orlando Cepeda and Tony Gonzalez followed with doubles for another run. The Braves added three more in the third when Felix Millan singled, Aaron walked and Rico Carty homered. Aaron and Carty doubled and Cepeda singled to wind up the Braves' scoring in the ninth. The Reds picked up their runs in the fourth on singles by Tommy Helms, Woody Woodward, Angel Bravo and Pete Rose.

Astros 6, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Denny Lernaster batted in three runs with a single and his first homer of the year to help himself to victory as the Astros defeated the Dodgers, 6-2. Lemaster was lifted after walking the first two batters in the seventh inning. Jack DiLauro and Fred Gladding finished. Lemaster drove in the Astros' first two runs with a bases-loaded single in the second and then hit for the circuit in the seventh. Andy Kosco homered for the Dodgers.

Expos 8, Phillies 1 at Montreal (night game):
Steve Renko pitched hitless ball for 6 1/3 innings and then settled for a three-hitter as the Expos defeated the Phillies, 8-1. Oscar Gamble broke Renko's string with a single. The Phillies added their two other hits and scored their run in the eighth when Ron Stone was nicked by a pitch and Doc Edwards and Jim Hutto singled. The Expos piled up 16 hits, tying a club record. Mack Jones smashed two homers and drove in three runs.

Mets 7, Pirates 6 at New York (night game):
Capping a four-run rally in the sixth inning, Wayne Garrett scored on an error to provide the Mets with the deciding tally in a 7-6 victory over the Pirates. Tommie Agee set a Mets' record for the most homers in one month, 11, to the tie score at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Al Oliver sent the Pirates ahead again with a circuit clout in the sixth. Donn Clendenon singled in the Mets' half and Ron Swoboda walked, leading to the removal of Bob Veale. Joe Foy welcomed the arrival of Orlando Pena with a single, tying the score. Garrett walked to load the bases and when Jerry Grote grounded out, Swoboda crossed the plate. Jerry Koosman then grounded to Pena, Foy scoring, and when the pitcher threw wildly to first, Garrett also registered. That run proved decisive when Willie Stargell homered with a man on base for the Pirates in the ninth.

Padres 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
On the strength of two homers, the Padres snapped an eight-game losing streak by defeating the Giants, 3-2. Steve Huntz singled and Bob Barton hit for the circuit in the third inning, but the Giants picked up a run in their half on Bob Heise's first major league homer and tied the score in the fifth when Heise and Willie McCovey doubled. Huntz broke the deadlock with a round-tripper in the seventh to beat Gaylord Perry, who was stopped on his personal five-game winning streak.

Cardinals 5, Cubs 4 at St. Louis (night game):
Pinch-hitter Jose Cardenal, who beat the Cubs with a two-run single in the previous night's game, turned the trick again with a homer in the eighth inning to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory. The defeat was the 12th in a row for the Cubs, who failed to hold a 4-1 lead. Billy Williams accounted for three RBIs with the homer. Bob Gibson, who gained his ninth straight victory, hit a homer in the third inning. After the Cardinals picked up another run in the fourth, a double by Julian Javier and a single by Gibson tied the score in seventh.
