Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Tigers 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Mike Cuellar yielded only four hits and pitched the Orioles to a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. The Orioles scored three of their runs on sacrifice flies and the other marker on a wild pitch by Mickey Lolich, who suffered his fifth consecutive defeat.

[DH] Red Sox 2, Indians 1 (night game) / Red Sox 5, Indians 4 at Boston (night game):
A homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the first game and an unearned run in the second game provided the Red Sox with 2-1 and 5-4 victories over the Indians in a twi-night doubleheader. Yastrzemski snapped a 1-1 tie in the lidlifter with his blow in the eighth inning. The Indians took a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, with three runs scoring on a circuit clout by Ray Fosse. The Red Sox came back with three in the third on singles by Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro, a triple by Rico Petrocelli and a double by George Scott. A single by Scott and triple by Jerry Moses produced the tying run in the seventh. Scott was trapped off third on a scratch hit by Dick Schofield, but escaped a rundown and scored the deciding marker on a wild throw by Ed Herrmann.

Angels 4, A's 0 at California (night game):
Clyde Wright turned in the A. L.'s first no-hitter of the season and pitched the Angels to a 4-0 victory over the Athletics.

[DH] Royals 5, Brewers 3 (night game) / Royals 4, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Ted Abernathy, obtained from the Cardinals, won the opener in relief and saved the nightcap as the Royals swept a twi-night doubleheader with the Brewers, 5-3 and 4-3. In the first game, the Royals tied the score with two runs on just one hit in the ninth inning and added the winning pair without the benefit of a hit in the tenth. A hit batsman, two walks, a grounder and a single by Tom Matchick produced runs in the ninth. Pat Kelly walked in the tenth, took second on a sacrifice and moved to third when Amos Otis was safe on an error. After Otis stole second, Ed Kirkpatrick was passed intentionally. Lou Piniella then bunted. Catcher Jerry McNertney grabbed the ball and stepped on the plate for a forceout, but his throw to first in an attempt to complete the double play hit Piniella in the back and bounced away as Otis and Kirkpatrick scored. The Royals took the second game when Kelly homered in the seventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie. One of the Brewers' runs came on a homer by Tommy Harper.

Twins 8, White Sox 2 at Minnesota (night game):
The Twins extended their winning streak to five games, breezing to an 8-2 victory over the White Sox behind the six-hit pitching of Jim Perry. The White Sox counted their pair in the first inning, but the Twins came right back with four runs on four hits, a walk, a wild pitch and an error. Cesar Tovar doubled and Danny Thompson singled for another run in the second and Harmon Killebrew iced the victory in fifth, hitting a homer with two men on base.

Senators 4, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Although collecting 11 hits, the Yankees wasted scoring opportunities and lost to the Senators. 4-3, for their fourth straight defeat. The Senators scored an unearned run in the first inning and then went ahead, 3-1, when Mike Epstein singled and Bernie Allen homered in the third. Singles by Ed Brinkman and Jim French, together with a sacrifice fly by Ed Stroud, added what proved to be the deciding tally in the fourth. Two of the Yankees' runs were unearned and the other came on a homer by John Ellis in the seventh inning.

[DH] Braves 8, Padres 1 (night game) / Braves 9, Padres 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Filling in for Hank Aaron in the first game, Mike Lum smashed three homers and Aaron, returning to action, also hit for the circuit in the second game as the Braves swept over the Padres in a twi-night doubleheader, 8-1 and 9-4. Lum, who had only one homer previously this season, batted in four runs with his round-trippers and picked up a fifth RBI by a drawing pass with the bases loaded. Rico Carty also homered for the Braves. Jim Nash, who gained his 10th victory, was deprived of a shutout when Cito Gaston connected for the circuit in the eighth inning. Carty started the Braves' scoring in the nightcap with a three-run wallop in the first inning. Aaron connected with one aboard in the second and Orlando Cepeda duplicated the blow in the fifth. The Padres had homers by Steve Huntz, Ollie Brown, Ramon Webster and Tommy Dean.

Pirates 16, Cubs 14 at Chicago (day game):
Roberto Clemente and Gene Alley smashed two homers apiece, while Al Oliver and Bill Mazeroski each added one as the Pirates outslugged the Cubs, 16-14. The Cubs had a grand-slam homer by Billy Williams and a solo swat by Willie Smith. Clemente's clouts accounted for four of the Pirates' seven runs in the first two innings, but the Cubs tied the score with the aid of Williams' wallop in their half of the second. After the Cubs batted their way to a 13-10 lead, the Pirates rallied for the knotting trio in the eighth on successive homers by Alley and Mazeroski, a pass to Johnny Jeter, a stolen base and a single by Matty Alou. In the ninth, after Clemente and Willie Stargell reached base, Manny Sanguillen hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Clemente, and Alley followed with his second homer of the game as the decisive blow, enabling the Pirates to brush off a run by the Cubs in their half of the final frame.

[DH] Reds 3, Astros 0 (night game) / Astros 10, Reds 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Astros absorbed a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Gary Nolan in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader before coming back to beat the Reds in second game, 10-4. Nolan pitched a five-hitter. The Reds scored two of their runs in the third inning on a pass to Pete Rose, single by Bobby Tolan, a wild pitch and a triple by Tony Perez. The other run in the seventh counted on a grounder by Lee May with the bases loaded. The Astros, who were trailing, 3-2, broke ahead in the nightcap with four runs in the sixth inning. After a single by Denis Menke and double by Bob Watson kayoed Tony Cloninger, Clay Carroll relieved. Doug Rader was safe on an error, allowing one run to score. Others followed when Johnny Edwards and Tom Griffin singled and Jim Wynn doubled.

Cardinals 9, Expos 7 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos' five-game winning streak, the longest in the expansion club's history, came to an end when the Cardinals batted their way to a 9-7 victory with the aid of homers by Lou Brock and Dick Allen. The Cardinals, after picking up a run in the first inning, erupted for five in the second. Chuck Taylor singled with the bases loaded to drive in two tallies and Brock followed with a three-run homer. The Cardinals added a run in sixth and scored their decisive pair in the seventh when Joe Torre doubled and Allen hit for the circuit.

Mets 4, Phillies 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Pinch-hitter Donn Clendenon drove in two runs with a two-out single in the ninth inning to bring the Mets a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. With one out, Ken Boswell was safe on an error by Larry Bowa and stopped at second on a single by Ken Singleton. After the runners advanced on an infield out by Jerry Grote, Clendenon delivered his hit, batting for Ray Sadecki.

Dodgers 8, Giants 6 at San Francisco (day game):
Willie Davis hit a homer, triple and two singles, driving in three runs, and Jim Brewer turned in three innings of shutout relief to gain the victory as the Dodgers defeated the Giants, 8-6. Five of the Giants' runs scored on homers. Bobby Bonds belted a pair, each with the bases empty, and Bob Taylor connected as a pinch-hitter with two aboard in the sixth. Davis tied the score at 6-6 with his round-tripper in the seventh. A pass to Billy Grabarkewitz, single by Manny Mota and error by Ken Henderson put the Dodgers ahead in the eighth and Davis followed with a single to plate an insurance run.
