Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 7, Orioles 5 at Baltimore (night game):
The Yankees, after losing a 4-0 lead, came back to defeat the Orioles, 7-5, in a game called because of rain with one out in Baltimore's half of the eighth inning. Jake Gibbs hit a two-run homer for the Yankees in their fast getaway, but Boog Powell batted in two tallies with a pair of singles and Brooks Robinson hit a two-run double as the Orioles went ahead, 5-4. In the sixth, the Yankees tied the score with two out when Horace Clarke drew a pass with the bases loaded. Jerry Kenney followed with a single, driving in two runs, to provide the winning margin.

Twins 4, Angels 2 at California (night game):
The Twins extended their winning streak to five games on the strength of a homer by Leo Cardenas, who connected with a man on base in the ninth inning to beat the Angels, 4-2. Tom Hall, who had relieved Bert Blyleven, singled ahead of Cardenas' clout.

Senators 9, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
The Senators broke a four-game losing streak when Casey Cox turned in his first route-going performance of the season to beat the Indians. 9-3. Paul Casanova, Tom Grieve and Rick Reichardt hit homers in support of Cox. Grieve's homer was the first of his major league career. Casanova batted in three runs with his homer, a sacrifice fly and a single. Tim Cullen also accounted for three RBIs with a sacrifice fly and single. Ray Fosse and Ted Uhlaender homered for the Indians.

Tigers 7, Red Sox 3 at Detroit (night game):
A baserunning blunder deprived Dalton Jones of credit for a grand-slam homer, forcing him to settle for a three-run single, in the Tigers' 7-3 victory over the Red Sox. Denny McLain, who started for the Tigers, gave up the Red Sox runs including a homer by Dick Schofield, before being removed for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning when the Tigers tied the score at 3-3. In the seventh, a single by Elliott Maddox and passes to Norm Cash and Don Wert loaded the bases. Jones batted for Jim Price and smashed a pitch by Vicente Romo into the upper deck in right field, but passed Wert on the paths between first and second bases and was called out.

White Sox 6, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
Two homers and two sacrifice flies provided the scoring production to enable the White Sox to defeat the Brewers, 6-5. The White Sox counted twice in the fourth inning on a single by Carlos May, two walks, and scoring flies by Ken Berry and Bobby Knoop. May homered with two men on base in the fifth and, one out later, Ed Herrmann also hit for the circuit to supply what proved to be the eventual winning run. The Brewers had a homer by Jerry McNertney.

Giants 7, Braves 6 at Atlanta (night game):
Willie Mays, who singled in the 11th inning for the 2,992nd hit of his career, raced from first to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield out by Dick Dietz to give the Giants a 7-6 victory over the Braves. The Giants built up a 6-0 lead before the Braves ended a 22-inning scoreless streak by exploding for six runs in the eighth. The first two counted on a homer by Orlando Cepeda. Hal King followed with a single and Jimmie Hall walked, leading to the removal of Juan Marichal. Don McMahon relieved but failed to stop the Braves, who added a run on a double by Mike Lum and pulled even when Clete Boyer smashed a homer.

Padres 10, Reds 9 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Padres, who failed to hold 9-1 lead after knocking out Wayne Simpson, scored in the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly by Steve Huntz and defeated the Reds, 10-9. The Padres' attack on the Reds' prize rookie included back-to-back homers by Dave Roberts and Dave Campbell in the second. Simpson was lifted in the third. The Reds began their comeback with a two-run homer by Johnny Bench in the fourth. Bench homered again with a man on base in the eighth to ignite a six-sun rally by the Reds. A walk and singles by Tommy Helms and Jimmy Stewart accounted for the third run of the inning and three more followed on a pinch-homer by Bernie Carbo. However, in the 10th, Ramon Webster and Ed Spiezio singled off Wayne Granger and Huntz followed with his fly.

Astros 9, Dodgers 5 at Houston (night game):
Denis Menke hit a grand-slam homer in the first inning and added a fifth RBI with a single in the third to help the Astros snap their five-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory over the Dodgers, who were stopped on a seven-game winning string. Jesus Alou and Joe Morgan singled and Bob Watson walked to put the ducks on the pond for Menke's jackpot wallop. Doug Rader also hit a homer for the Astros, while Willie Davis had an inside-the-park job for the Dodgers.

Mets 7, Expos 1 at New York (night game):
Tom Seaver rapped the first homer of his major league career along with pitching a three-hitter, as the Mets defeated the Expos, 7-1, for their seventh straight victory. Ron Swoboda smashed a grand-slam homer in the third inning after the Mets had loaded the bases on singles by Bud Harrelson and Ken Singleton and a pass to Donn Clendenon. Seaver led off the fourth with his round-tripper. The Mets' ace, who raised his record to 14-5 with his seventh consecutive complete-game victory, was deprived of a shutout when Rusty Staub homered in the sixth. Tommie Agee was collared, ending the Met outfielder's 19-game batting streak.

Pirates 6, Cardinals 0 at St. Louis (night game):
With Dock Ellis pitching a five-hitter, the Bucs beat the Cardinals, 6-0, clinching their verdict with four unearned runs in the fifth inning. Manny Sanguillen batted in the Pirates' earned pair with grounders in the first and third. With two out in the fifth, a single by Roberto Clemente, error by Jim Kennedy on another grounder by Sanguillen and a pass to Bob Robertson loaded bases. Al Oliver then hit to Kennedy and when the rookie shortstop threw wildly, two runs scored. Two more counted on singles by Jose Pagan and Bill Mazeroski.
