Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 11, Tigers 10 at Boston (day game):
The Conigliaro brothers, Tony and Billy, batted in seven runs between them to help the Red Sox outlast the Tigers, 11-10. The Red Sox had an 11-3 lead going into the ninth inning, but the Tigers almost pulled the game out of the fire with a seven-run rally. Billy Conigliaro, who had three hits, homered with two men on base in the fourth inning and knocked in what proved to be the winning run with a single in the eighth. Tony Conigliaro drove in three with a single and a pair of sacrifice flies. The Tigers sent 11 men to the plate in the ninth. chasing both Sonny Siebert and Sparky Lyle, before Chuck Hartenstein saved the game by striking out Bill Freehan. Gates Brown, Jim Northrup and Norm Cash each batted in two runs with singles. Northrup also had a homer in the game and a total of four RBIs.

A's 7, Twins 3 at Minnesota (day game):
Rick Monday smashed a homer, two doubles and a single to lead the Athletics' 19-hit attack in a 7-3 victory over the Twins. Tommy Davis, Don Mincher and Tony LaRussa contributed three hits apiece. The A's wasted most opportunities and did not clinch the victory until scoring four runs in the eighth inning on six straight hits -- a double by LaRussa, safe bunt by Mudcat Grant, single by Bert Campaneris, double by Monday and singles by Davis and Mincher. Harmon Killebrew clouted a homer for the Twins, whose loss cut their West division lead to 6½ games over the idle Angels and seven over the Athletics.

Mets 10, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
With Tom Seaver posting his 17th victory, the Mets beat the Pirates, 10-2, for a split of the four-game series to leave the clubs where they started with the Pirates having a 2½-game lead over the Mets in the East division race. Seaver got off to a shaky start, giving up the Pirates' runs on two walks, a double by Al Oliver and an infield out, but the Mets' ace allowed only five singles the rest of the way. The Mets charged back with five runs in the second. Cleon Jones doubled and, with one out, Wayne Garrett walked and Jerry Grote singled to load the bases. Seaver grounded to Al Oliver, who had a chance to start an inning-ending double play, but the first baseman threw wildly to second, two runs scoring. Another counted on a single by Tommie Agee. After a hit by Bud Harrelson reloaded the sacks, a walk to Ken Boswell and sacrifice fly by Donn Clendenon produced two more runs. Agee tripled to plate two runs in the third. Another pair counted in the fourth on four walks and a sacrifice fly by Grote before Clendenon wound up the scoring with a homer in the seventh.
