Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, A's 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Mike Cuellar joined teammate Dave McNally as a 20-game winner when the Orioles defeated the Athletics, 6-4. Frank Robinson homered after a pass to Terry Crowley in the first inning and Crowley and Robinson hit hack-to-back homers in the third. The A's, who got a round-tripper by Joe Rudi, cut their deficit to one run, but the Orioles posted the decisive pair in the fifth. Brooks Robinson singled and, on a grounder by Davey Johnson, both runners were safe on a fielder's choice. A scratch single by Cuellar and an error by Marcel Lachemann enabled Robinson to score. Johnson also crossed the plate when Don Buford singled.

Brewers 14, Indians 2 at Cleveland (night game):
The Brewers smashed three homers among their 12 hits and also took advantage of five errors to score six unearned runs in rolling over the Indians, 14-2. Roberto Pena, Tommy Harper and Danny Walton hit Brewers' homers. Harper's smash, with two men on base in the fifth inning, was his 25th of season and tied the Seattle-Milwaukee club record set by Don Mincher in 1969. Vada Pinson and Duke Sims homered for the Indians' runs off Lew Krausse.

Twins 5, Red Sox 2 at Minnesota (day game):
With the help of catcher George Mitterwald, who broke a tie with a homer, Jim Perry gained his 19th victory as the Twins defeated the Red Sox, 5-2. A homer by Rico Petrocelli in the second helped the Red Sox tie the score at 2-2, but Jim Holt singled in the Twins' fourth and Mitterwald snapped the deadlock with his round-tripper. Perry then hit his first of two doubles in the game and counted an insurance run on a single by Cesar Tovar.

Astros 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
The Astros, who got five-hit pitching from Larry Dierker, edged the Expos, 5-4. Jim Wynn and John Mayberry hit consecutive homers for the Astros in the fourth inning, but the Expos took the lead with three runs in their half on a single by Rusty Staub, pass to Bob Bailey, a wild pitch and a boundary belt by John Bateman. The Astros tied the score in the fifth and went ahead to win with two runs in the sixth on passes to Wynn and Mayberry and singles by Denis Menke and Doug Rader.

Mets 5, Braves 1 at New York (day game):
The Mets, who had lost three straight games, bounced back behind the five-hit pitching of Jim McAndrew to defeat the Braves, 5-1. The Mets started the scoring with two runs in the first inning on walks to Tommie Agee and Art Shamsky and a two-out double by Donn Clendenon. Agee, who rapped two singles, scored in the third and set up a run in the fourth. The Mets added their final tally on two errors in the fifth. McAndrew yielded the Braves' run in the seventh on a single by Orlando Cepeda and a double by Rico Carty.

Phillies 6, Reds 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
The relief pitching of Grant Jackson, who held the Reds scoreless over the last 5 1/3 innings, enabled the Phillies to gain a 6-3 victory. Deron Johnson hit a two-run homer for the Phillies in the first. Doubles by Larry Hisle and Lowell Palmer added a marker in the second. After the Reds kayoed Palmer and tied the score in the fourth, the Phillies came back with three runs in their half. Don Money singled and counted the tie-breaking tally on a double by Larry Hisle. After a pass to Mike Compton and forceout by Jackson, Hisle scored on another forceout by Larry Bowa. A single by Tony Taylor and a wild pitch allowed Bowa to score the final tally.

Cubs 5, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Milt Pappas, who was obtained from the Braves June 25, gained his eighth victory in 12 decisions with the Cubs, bringing his overall season mark to 10-6, by defeating the Padres, 5-1. On the other hand, Earl Wilson, purchased from the Tigers July 16, suffered his fifth straight loss with the Padres. Glenn Beckert collected four hits and Billy Williams had three in the Cubs' attack. Nate Colbert homered for the Padres' run.

Cardinals 4, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Bob Gibson gained his seventh straight victory and 19th of the season when the Cardinals scored three unearned runs to defeat the Giants, 4-1. A single by Willie Mays and triple by Willie McCovey supplied the Giants' run in the first inning. Four errors on two consecutive batters enabled the Cardinals to tie the score in the third. An error by Jim Ray Hart in the seventh on what should have been the third out led to two tainted tallies. The Cardinals' only earned run off Gaylord Perry scored in the ninth when Lou Brock and Ed Crosby singled and Joe Hague hit a sacrifice fly.
