Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A double by Don Buford and single by Mark Belanger broke up a 13-inning game and gave the Orioles a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. Chico Salmon and Boog Powell homered for the Orioles' first two runs. Bob Montgomery hit his first major league homer for the Red Sox in the fifth and the tying run followed in the eighth on a double by Carl Yastrzemski and single by Rico Petrocelli.

Brewers 2, Angels 1 at California (night game):
With the help of an error, the Brewers scored two runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Angels, 2-1. Bob Burda singled and wound up at third when Tony Gonzalez dropped a fly by Mike Hegan for a two-base error. Roberto Pena beat out an infield hit, scoring Burda, and Phill Roof singled to plate Hegan. The Angels, who lost their eighth straight game, loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but counted only once on a sacrifice fly by Bill Voss.

Indians 3, Yankees 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Chuck Hinton homered in the sixth inning for the 1,000th hit of his major league career to give the Indians their winning run in a 3-2 victory over the Yankees.

Senators 4, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Bill Gogolewski, a rookie from Pittsfield (Eastern), made his first major league start and received credit for the victory when the Senators defeated the Tigers, 4-2. Mike Epstein homered for the Nats in the second inning. Singles by Frank Howard and Epstein, a forceout of Epstein by Aurelio Rodriguez and singles by Ed Brinkman and Paul Casanova added two runs in the fourth. Rodriguez batted in the Senators' last tally with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Gogolewski was lifted with two out in the sixth. Darold Knowles and Horacio Pina finished.

A's 3, Royals 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Vida Blue yielded only one hit -- a single by Pat Kelly with two out in the eighth inning -- and pitched the Athletics to a 3-0 victory over the Royals. The A's halted their three-game losing streak while snapping a string of four straight victories for the Royals. Tommy Davis doubled and Reggie Jackson singled for a run in the sixth inning. The A's padded their lead in the eighth with a single by Sal Bando, an error, a double by Dick Green and single by Bert Campaneris.

Twins 6, White Sox 0 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins completed four double plays, their high for season, to back the pitching of Bill Zepp, who yielded only five hits and shut out the White Sox, 6-0. Harmon Killebrew, Frank Qullici and George Mitterwald smashed homers. Quilici's blow came with two on base in the fourth inning.

Astros 3, Braves 2 at Houston (night game):
Hoyt Wilhelm suffered his first loss since July 5 when the Astros defeated the Braves, 3-2, on a run-scoring single by Denis Menke with two out in the eighth inning. The Astros counted their first two tallies off Jim Nash. A triple by Jesus Alou and single by Joe Morgan produced a run in the first and a triple by Morgan and safe bunt by Bob Watson added a counter in the sixth. Darrell Evans tied the score for the Braves with a two-run single in the seventh. Jim Wynn singled off Wilhelm with two away in the eighth and stole second. After a pass to Watson, Menke drove Wilhlem's knuckleball into left field for the winning single.

Expos 1, Phillies 0 at Montreal (night game):
Carl Morton posted his 16th victory for the Expos when Gary Sutherland drove in a run with a single in the eighth inning to beat the Phillies, 1-0. Coco Laboy singled off Chris Short to open the eighth and advanced to second on a bunt by Bobby Wine. Don Hahn then ran for Laboy and crossed the plate on Sutherland's single.

Cardinals 5, Mets 2 at New York (night game):
The Mets lost to the Cardinals, 5-2, and dropped out of a first place tie in the East division, one-half game behind the idle Pirates. Tom Seaver was the loser, although striking out 10 in six innings to bring his season's total to 274, a new N. L. record for a righthanded pitcher. The Cardinals jumped on Seaver for four runs in the fourth on a single by Joe Hague, pass to Joe Torre, double by Jose Cardenal, single by Carl Taylor, walk to Ted Simmons and a wild throw by Jerry Grote when the Redbirds worked a double steal. Bob Gibson, gaining his 21st victory, shut out the Mets until the ninth when Wayne Garrett walked, Cleon Jones singled, Dave Marshall doubled and Ken Boswell hit a sacrifice fly for their two runs.

Padres 3, Reds 2 at San Diego (night game):
Pat Dobson pitched a two-hitter and Nate Colbert broke a 2-2 tie with a homer in the seventh inning to bring the Padres a 3-2 victory over the Reds. The Padres counted their initial pair on doubles by Dave Campbell and Ollie Brown and a single by Al Ferrara in the fourth. Dobson gave up an unimportant triple by Tony Perez in the second. The other hit was a double by Pete Rose in the sixth when the Reds scored their two runs. Bobby Tolan was hit by a pitch, stole second and counted on Rose's two-bagger. After advancing on a wild pitch, Rose scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnny Bench.

Giants 4, Dodgers 3 at San Francisco (night game):
The relief pitching of Mike Davison and Don McMahon, after Juan Marichal was forced to leave the game, enabled the Giants to defeat the Dodgers, 4-3. Marichal suffered a muscle spasm in his stomach and left with two men on base and none out in the seventh inning. Davison retired the side and McMahon pitched the final two frames. The Giants scored a run in the first on singles by Tito Fuentes and Ken Henderson around an error by Willie Crawford. Don Sutton beat himself with wildness in the fourth when the Giants added their other runs on only two hits with the aid of three walks and three wild pitches.
