Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 4, White Sox 3 at California (night game):
After pitching no-hit hall for six innings, Tom Murphy was knocked out in the seventh, but the Angels held on to defeat the White Sox, 4-3, behind the relief work of Eddie Fisher. The Angels scored twice in the first inning and added their other pair in the sixth, with Murphy hitting a single to drive in what proved to be the winning run. In the White Sox seventh, Jose Ortiz was safe on an error, Tommy McCraw singled for the first hit off Murphy and Bill Melton smashed a homer. When Carlos May followed with a single, Fisher relieved.

Twins 1, Royals 0 at Minnesota (day game):
A squeeze bunt by Danny Thompson scored Brant Alyea in the fifth inning and provided the Twins with a 1-0 victory over the Royals. Alyea doubled and reached third on a sacrifice by George Mitterwald before Thompson laid down his bunt.

Astros 3, Giants 0 at Houston (night game):
Jack Billingham held the Giants to six hits, struck out 12 and pitched the Astros to a 3-0 victory. The Astros scored all their runs in the second inning on a walk, singles by Doug Rader and Larry Howard, an infield out and a squeeze bunt by Cesar Cedeno.

Mets 6, Cubs 3 at New York (night game):
Two homers -- one that tied the score in the ninth inning and another that won the game in the 10th -- powered the Mets to a 6-3 victory and moved them into a tie with the Cubs for second place in the East division. The Mets picked up their initial run in the first inning. Leroy Stanton led off with a triple and was hit on the head by the throw from the outfield, forcing him to leave the game. Rod Gaspar took over and, after a walk, scored while the Cubs were executing a double play. Tommy Davis smashed a homer with two on base to put the Cubs ahead in the sixth and Ken Holtzman protected the 3-1 advantage until the ninth, when Cleon Jones singled and Donn Clendenon tied the score with a circuit clout. In the 10th, with Hoyt Wilhelm on the hill, Jerry Grote doubled, Dave Marshall walked and Wayne Garrett homered with two out to win the game.
