Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 4, White Sox 1 at Chicago (day game):
Skip Lockwood, who gave up a walk and two singles for a run in the first inning, yielded only two more hits the rest of the way and pitched the Brewers to a 4-1 victory over the White Sox.

Orioles 6, Indians 4 at Cleveland (day game):
Two passes with the bases loaded and two out in the 10th inning handed the Orioles a 6-4 victory over the Indians. The Orioles filled the sacks on a single by Brooks Robinson, an error and a pass to Don Buford. Chuck Machemehl then walked Paul Blair to force in the first run and Steve Mingori came in and passed Boog Powell to donate the second tally.

Angels 5, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
Breaking up a tight game, the Angels erupted for three runs in the 11th inning and defeated the Royals, 5-2. Syd O'Brien and Chico Ruiz were on base with two out when Sandy Alomar singled to score O'Brien with the tie-breaking run. Jim Fregosi followed with a single to plate an insurance pair.

A's 4, Twins 3 at Minnesota (day game):
Run-scoring singles by Joe Rudi and Reggie Jackson with two out in the eighth inning brought the Athletics a 4-3 victory over the Twins. Dick Green singled and was on second with two away when Rudi came through with his hit to tie the score. Rudi advanced to second on the throw home and counted the deciding run on Jackson's single.

Tigers 3, Yankees 2 at New York (day game):
A safe bunt by Aurerlio Rodriguez and a single by Ed Brinkman, around a sacrifice by Mickey Stanley, scored a run for Tigers in the ninth inning to defeat the Yankees, 3-2. Manager Billy Martin of the Tigers used seven pitchers, winding up with Jim Hannan, who allowed only one hit in the last 2 2/3 innings.

Dodgers 2, Cardinals 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Al Downing gained his first N. L. victory when the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals, 2-1. Bill Russell batted in the Dodgers' first run with a single in the fifth inning and then doubled and scored the winning run on a single by Maury Wills in the ninth.

Cubs 4, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
A loser in his first two starts, Bill Hands entered the winning column when the Cubs held off the Padres, 4-3. Joe Pepitone, who cracked four straight singles, drove in two runs in the first inning and Ron Santo singled to plate the Cubs' other pair in the third. After the Padres cut the Cubs' lead to one run, Hands tightened and pitched scoreless ball in the last three innings.

Giants 4, Astros 3 at San Francisco (day game):
Swinging at the first pitch in his first time at bat in the N. L., Fran Healy smashed a pinch-homer in the 10th inning to give the Giants a 4-3 victory over the Astros. Healy had batted 10 times previously in the A. L. in six games with the Royals in 1969.
