Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 11, Yankees 6 at Baltimore (day game):
The Orioles exploded for six runs in the second inning and went on to defeat the Yankees, 11-6. With the bases loaded, two out and all runners moving on a 3-2 count, Paul Blair cleared the sacks with a single for the most productive hit of the stanza. Dick Hall, pitching in relief as the third man on the mound for the Orioles, held the Yankees hitless in the last four frames.

[DH] A's 11, White Sox 2 (day game) / A's 6, White Sox 1 at Chicago (day game):
With Vida Blue and Diego Segui pitching complete games, the Athletics swept a doubleheader from the White Sox, 11-2 and 6-1. The A's clinched the opener in the first inning by scoring five runs, only one earned, with the aid of two errors. Joe Rudi and Blue hit run-scoring doubles. Sal Bando was the only A's player who failed to join in the 17-hit attack, but the third baseman made up for it in the nightcap. Bando slammed a homer in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and batted in two teammates with a double in the eighth when the A's iced the verdict with four runs.

[DH] Senators 4, Indians 0 (day game) / Indians 1, Senators 0 at Cleveland (day game):
In a swap of shutouts, the Senators won the opener of a doubleheader, 4-0, on Denny McLain's three-hitter and the Indians took the nightcap, 1-0, on a one-hitter by Steve Dunning, who pitched his first complete game in the major leagues. Dunning, who went right from Stanford University to the Indians last June, gave up a single by Tommy McCraw in the second inning. Six other batters reached base on walks.

Red Sox 1, Tigers 0 at Detroit (day game):
A homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the fourth inning enabled the Red Sox to defeat the Tigers, 1-0, in a duel between winner Sonny Siebert and loser Dean Chance.

[DH] Royals 2, Brewers 1 (day game) / Brewers 3, Royals 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
Paul Schaal hit a homer in the ninth inning to give the Royals a 2-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Brewers came back to win the second game, 3-2, on a bases-loaded single by Tommy Harper in the 13th inning. Two walks, a double steal and an intentional pass preceded Harper's hit.

Angels 5, Twins 4 at Minnesota (day game):
Mel Queen struck out Cesar Tovar with the potential tying run on base in the ninth inning to enable the Angels to extend their winning streak to seven games with a 5-4 victory over the Twins. The defeat was the sixth straight for the Twins. Homers by Jim Spencer and Alex Johnson produced three runs for the Angels in the third and they added two in the ninth on a double by Johnson, single by Jim Fregosi, a wild pitch and a single by Jerry Moses.

Astros 8, Dodgers 6 at Los Angeles (night game):
A five-run outburst in the fifth inning, featuring a homer by Joe Morgan with two men on base, started the Astros off to an 8-6 victory over the Dodgers. Morgan's blast followed singles by Jack Hiatt and Roger Metzger. The Astros then added two more runs on successive doubles by Denis Menke, Bob Watson and Doug Rader. In the sixth, Hiatt walked, Metzger tripled and Morgan accounted for his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.

[DH] Expos 3, Reds 2 (day game) / Expos 5, Reds 3 at Montreal (day game):
The surprises of the early season, the Expos swept a doubleheader with the Reds, 3-2 and 5-3, and moved into first place in the East division for the first time in the expansion club's three-year history. In the lidlifter, the Expos gained their victory with a two-run rally in the seventh inning. After singles by Ron Brand and Rusty Staub and a pass to Bob Bailey loaded the bases, Clyde Mashore, who formerly was in the Reds' organization, cracked a single to drive in the tying and winning runs. Staub was the Expos' hero in the nightcap. Le Grande Orange homered with a man on base in the first inning, scored another run on a single by Ron Fairly in the fifth and doubled to drive in Ron Hunt in the seventh. Bill Stoneman limited the Reds to six hits.

[DH] Mets 5, Pirates 2 (day game) / Pirates 2, Mets 1 at New York (day game):
Gary Gentry allowed only one hit and pitched the Mets to a 5-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader before Bob Johnson, who formerly belonged to the Mets, hurled the Pirates to a 2-1 victory in the second game. Roberto Clemente tripled in the sixth inning for the only hit off Gentry, but it helped the Pirates take a 2-1 lead. Richie Hebner, who walked, scored on the three-bagger and Clemente followed across the plate on a sacrifice fly by Willie Stargell. However, Cleon Jones homered with a man on base in the Mets' half of the sixth and Tommie Agee added a run with a circuit clout in the eighth. Johnson, who pitched a six-hitter, was the winner when the Pirates broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the ninth on a pass to Hebner, an infield out and a single by Stargell.

Braves 5, Phillies 4 at Philadelphia (day game):
Orlando Cepeda collected five hits and capped his batting performance with a homer in the 10th inning to give the Braves a 5-4 victory over the Phillies.

Cardinals 4, Padres 2 at San Diego (day game):
With two out in the ninth inning, the Cardinals rallied for two runs to defeat the Padres, 4-2. Ted Sizemore walked with one away and reached second on a wild pitch. After Bob Burda flied out, Leron Lee hit a pinch-double to drive in tie-breaking tally and Matty Alou followed with a single for an insurance run.

[DH] Giants 5, Cubs 1 (day game) / Giants 8, Cubs 1 at San Francisco (day game):
The Giants extended their winning streak to eight games by sweeping a doubleheader with the Cubs, 5-1 and 8-1. In the lidlifter, the Giants erupted for all their runs in the fourth inning. George Foster, Jimmy Rosario and Tito Fuentes singled to load the bases with two out. Frank Johnson batted for Steve Stone and cleared the sacks with a double. Bobby Bonds followed with a two-run homer. Fran Healy led the Giants' attack in the nightcap, driving in four runs with a homer and three singles.
