Angels 8, Indians 0 at California (night game):
The three-hit pitching of Rudy May featured the Angels' 8-0 victory over the Indians. Although scoring a run in the first inning, the Angels did not collect a hit off Steve Dunning until the fifth when they piled up four runs. Roger Repoz led off with a walk and Ken McMullen singled. After the runners advanced on a groundout, Repoz scored on a passed ball. McMullen came home on a single by Sandy Alomar, and Jim Spencer then climaxed the stanza with a two-run homer.

Tigers 8, Royals 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Joe Niekro gained his first victory of the season and Bill Zepp picked up his first save when the Tigers defeated the Royals, 8-3. The Tigers decided the outcome with four runs in the third inning on two walks, a single by Al Kaline, a throwing error by Joe Keough, double by Willie Horton and single by Bill Freehan.

A's 1, Orioles 0 at Oakland (night game):
Vda Blue, the Athletics' 21-year-old southpaw, boosted his record to 5-1 with his third shutout of the season, pitching a four-hitter to beat the Orioles, 1-0. Blue paved the way for the lone run with a safe bunt in the sixth inning. Bert Campaneris also bunted safely. Blue tried to steal thid and was thrown out, but Campaneris advanced to second on the play and scored on a two-out single by Reggie Jackson.

Twins 7, Senators 2 at Washington (night game):
Harmon Killebrew and Tony Oliva smashed two-run homers in support of Jim Perry, who pitched the Twins to a 7-2 victory over the Senators. Perry gave up six hits. The Nats' runs came on circuit clouts by Frank Howard and Tommy McCraw.

Phillies 2, Astros 1 at Houston (night game):
Willie Montanez, the Phillies' hot-hitting rookie outfielder, smashed a homer in the eighth inning to beat the Astros, 2-1. The Phillies counted their other run off Tom Griffin in the first on walks to Don Money and Montanez and a two-out single by Deron Johnson. The Astros nicked Rick Wise for the tying tally in the third on a triple by Joe Morgan and double by Jim Wynn.

Mets 12, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
The anticipated pitching duel between Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson proved one-sided when the Mets walloped the Cardinals, 12-2. The Mets piled up 17 hits, 10 off Gibson, who was kayoed in the fourth inning. Seaver limited the Cards to seven hits, including a double and triple by Matty Alou.
