Today's scores and summaries:

Twins 7, Red Sox 3 at Boston (day game):
Jim Perry, who was rocked for three runs in the first inning, two scoring on successive homers by leadoff men Luis Aparicio and Reggie Smith, shook off his shaky start and pitched the Twins to a 7-3 victory over the Red Sox. Perry had a big hand in the Twins' attack, rapping three hits, scoring three runs and driving in one.

Angels 9, Tigers 1 at California (night game):
The Angels jumped on Dean Chance for five runs in the second inning and defeated the Tigers, 9-1. John Stephenson, who drove in one run with a double in second, added two RBIs with another double in the seventh. The hits were the first of the season for the reserve catcher.

Royals 5, Orioles 2 at Kansas City (day game):
Having beaten the Orioles in the previous night's game for the first time since May 9, 1969, the Royals did it again by rapping a club record-tying total of six doubles to gain a 5-2 victory. Boog Powell and Frank Robinson hit back-to-back homers for the Orioles' runs.

Brewers 1, Yankees 0 at New York (day game):
Tommy Harper hit his first homer of the season to bring the Brewers a 1-0 victory over the Yankees. Harper's smash in the eighth inning made a winner out of Lew Krausse and pinned the defeat on Stan Bahnsen.

Indians 2, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
One rookie pitcher saved another when the Indians defeated the Athletics, 2-1. Steve Dunning, who struck out 13 batters, faltered with one out in the ninth inning and gave up singles by Gene Tenace and Dick Green. Chuck Machemehl relieved and saved the game by inducing Bert Campaneris to ground into a double play. The Indians scored what proved to be the winning run on an obstruction play when Tenace, the A's catcher, bumped into Graig Nettles, who was caught in a rundown between third and home.

White Sox 5, Senators 3 at Washington (night game):
Four White Sox pitchers, starting with Tommy John, yielded only five hits in a 5-3 victory over the Senators. Carlos May led the White Sox at bat against Denny McLain with a homer and two singles. All three of the Senators' runs were unearned as a result of rookie shortstop Lee Richard's third error of the game.

Braves 7, Dodgers 5 at Atlanta (night game):
A trio of two-run homers powered the Braves to a 7-5 victory over the Dodgers. Hank Aaron connected for the circuit in the first and eighth innings to produce the Braves' first four runs. After the Dodgers went ahead, 5-4, in the ninth, Sonny Jackson walked in the Braves' half, went to second on a sacrifice, reached third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run on a single by Mike Lum. Mike McQueen then forced Lum, but Felix Millan came to the plate and hit a two-run homer to win the game for the Braves.

Cubs 7, Phillies 4 at Chicago (day game):
Billy Williams hit two homers and a double in support of Fergie Jenkins as the Cubs defeated the Phillies, 7-4. Williams accounted for the Cubs' first run with a homer in the first inning and then doubled and scored on a single by Joe Pepitone in the fourth. With the Phillies leading, 4-2, the Cubs rallied to take charge with four runs in the fifth. A single by Danny Breeden, error on a bunt by Jenkins and a single by Glenn Beckert produced one run before Williams added three more with a homer.

Reds 3, Giants 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Don Gullett, whose infield out capped the Reds' scoring of three runs in the second inning, defeated the Giants, 3-2, with last-out help from Wayne Granger. Johnny Bench singled, Bernie Carbo doubled and Tommy Helms singled for the first two runs. Helms, who advanced on the throw to the plate, moved to third on an infield hit by Dave Concepcion and scored what proved to be the winning run on Gullett's grounder.

Astros 3, Mets 1 at Houston (night game):
In a duel between undefeated pitchers, Larry Dierker triumphed over Tom Seaver when the Astros defeated the Mets, 3-1. A double by Joe Morgan and singles by Jim Wynn, Bob Watson and Denis Menke gave the Astros two runs in the first inning and they added the other tally when Morgan homered in the third. The Mets got on the board in the ninth with singles by Tommie Agee, Bud Harrelson and Cleon Jones.

Pirates 5, Padres 4 at Pittsburgh (day game):
A single by Gene Alley in the 11th inning scored Bob Robertson and gave the Pirates a 5-4 victory over the Padres. Clay Kirby, who singled to drive in two of the Padres' runs, became the first San Diego pitcher to go nine innings this season, but he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 10th. With Bill Laxton on the mound, Robertson walked in the 11th. Manny Sanguillen sacrificed and Alley singled to break up the game.

Expos 2, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Heavy rain forced the Expos and Cardinals to settle for a 2-2 tie in a game called by the umpires after seven innings.
