Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Royals 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Merv Rettenmund singled in the 10th inning for his fourth hit of the game and scored Brooks Robinson to give the Orioles a 5-4 victory over the Royals. Robinson and Davey Johnson walked ahead of Rettenmund's single.

Indians 7, A's 5 at Cleveland (night game):
Steve Dunning hit a grand-slam for his first major league homer but failed to take advantage of his bat and the Indians had to call on Phil Hennigan to defeat the Athletics, 7-5. Dunning helped stake himself to a 5-0 lead with his jackpot wallop in the second inning, but the A's picked up a run in the third and tied the score with four more in the fifth, three scoring on a homer by Rick Monday. Hennigan relieved with none out and blanked the A's the rest of the way. The Indians broke a tie in their half of the fifth on a single by Vida Pinson, an infield out and double by Roy Foster. Singles by Jack Heidemann and Ted Uhlaender, around a sacrifice by Hennigan, added an insurance run in the sixth.

Angels 5, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Never strong on route-going performances, Clyde Wright turned in his first complete game of the season and pitched the Angels to a 5-0 victory over the Tigers. Even last year, when the lefthander won 22 games, he lasted the distance only seven times. Ken Berry and Ken McMullen hit homers to help Wright to his decision over the Tigers, balancing his record at 3-3.

Red Sox 5, Twins 4 at Minnesota (night game):
Duane Josephson and Carl Yastrzemski each hit a homer with a man on base, but the Red Sox also needed an unearned run to defeat the Twins, 5-4. Josephson connected in the second inning and after Yastrzemski followed suit in the sixth, Rico Petrocelli singled, advanced to third on a pair of infield outs and scored what proved to be the deciding run when Rick Renick fumbled a grounder by Josephson.

Dodgers 6, Braves 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Bill Buckner belted a three-run homer and Willie Davis collected four straight hits to pace the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory over the Braves. A single by Davis, pass to Dick Allen and double by Wes Parker produced two runs in the first inning. Buckner hit his homer in the fourth after a triple by Bill Russell and pass to Claude Osteen. Before the inning ended, the Dodgers added their final run on a triple by Davis and single by Dick Allen.

Cardinals 10, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
Turning sluggers, the Cardinals smashed four homers to defeat the Expos, 10-4. Joe Torre hit two round-trippers and Dick Schofield and Jose Cardenal clouted one apiece. Boots Day hit his first major league homer for the Expos.

Mets 8, Astros 1 at New York (night game):
Although wild, Nolan Ryan yielded only three hits and pitched the Mets to an 8-1 victory over the Astros. The fastball righthander, who turned in his first complete game of the season, walked seven, hit one batter and uncorked a wild pitch. The Mets capped their attack with a grand-slam homer by Dave Marshall in the sixth inning after George Culver replaced Larry Dierker.

Cubs 6, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Homers by Johnny Callison, Billy Williams and Ron Santo, each with a man on base, accounted for the Cubs' runs in a 6-2 victory over the Phillies.

Pirates 10, Padres 4 at San Diego (night game):
A triple by Gene Clines helped the Pirates score four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-4 victory over the Padres. Roberto Clemente hit his first homer of the season in the first inning, but the Padres led, 2-1, before the Pirates took command with the aid of two errors by catcher Bob Barton. Bill Mazeroski and Jackie Hernandez singled and when Barton threw wildly on a bunt by Dock Ellis, Mazeroski scored. Clines then tripled to add two runs and counted himself when Clemente grounded to Dave Campbell and Barton dropped the second baseman's throw to the plate.

Giants 6, Reds 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Bobby Bonds, Dick Dietz and Willie McCovey hit homers to power the Giants to a 6-1 victory over the Reds. Bonds led off the game with a round-tripper and, after the Giants picked up two more runs, Dietz also connected for the circuit. McCovey hit his homer after a pass to Willie Mays in the third.
