A's 6, Royals 3 at Kansas City (night game):
The Athletics erupted for five runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Royals, 6-3, behind the six-hit pitching of Catfish Hunter, who gained his sixth straight victory after having lost his first two decisions of the season. In the fifth, the A's loaded the bases and scored their runs on singles by Joe Rudi, Mike Epstein, Tommy Davis and Sal Bando. Epstein's single drove in two tallies.

Yankees 4, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (day game):
Horace Clarke hit his second triple of the game and scored on a double by Jake Gibbs in the 10th inning to bring the Yankees a 4-3 victory over the Brewers. Clarke scored on a sacrifice fly by Gibbs after his first triple in the opening frame. Bobby Murcer accounted for the Yankees' two other runs with a homer in the fourth.
