Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Red Sox 2 at Baltimore (day game):
With Mike Cuellar pitching a four-hitter, the Orioles gained a 5-2 victory and reduced the Red Sox lead to three games in the East division. Reggie Smith homered after a walk to Doug Griffin to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but Brooks Robinson tied the count with a circuit clout in the fourth and the Orioles went ahead in the same stanza when Paul Blair and Elrod Hendricks singled and Mark Belanger lofted a sacrifice fly. Don Buford contributed a homer in the fifth.

White Sox 13, Angels 0 at California (night game):
In his new role as starter for the White Sox this season, Wilbur Wood turned in the first complete game of his major career and breezed to a 13-0 over the Angels. The shutout was the second straight for the White Sox over the Angels, following Tom Bradley's 3-0 victory in the previous night's game.

Indians 2, Yankees 1 at Cleveland (day game):
An error that allowed Steve Dunning to score in the seventh inning enabled the Indians' pitcher to defeat the Yankees, 2-1. Dunning reached second base when Bobby Murcer lost his fly ball in the sun in center field. Ted Ford then singled and Dunning was out at the plate on Jim Lyttle's throw to Jake Gibbs, but the catcher let the ball pop out of his mitt.

Tigers 3, Senators 1 at Detroit (day game):
Although the Tigers were held to a total of only three hits, back-to-back homers by Aurelio Rodriguez and Jim Northrup in the first inning enabled them to defeat the Senators, 3-1. Bill Zepp, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, gained his first victory in a Detroit uniform.

Brewers 12, Royals 0 at Kansas City (day game):
The Brewers, who had not scored more than seven runs in any previous game this season, broke loose with a 12-0 victory over the Royals behind the five-hit hurling of Marty Pattin. The Brewers piled up 14 hits, including two singles and two doubles by Tommy Harper.

A's 5, Twins 1 at Oakland (day game):
Catfish Hunter chalked up his eighth straight victory for the Athletics, pitching a two-hitter to defeat the Twins, 5-1. Tommy Davis batted in three runs, two with a single in the first inning and the other with a homer in the seventh, when Reggie Jackson also hit for the circuit. Steve Braun homered for the Twins' tally.

Cubs 5, Dodgers 2 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs continued to enjoy the success at the expense of Don Sutton by defeating the Dodgers' righthander, 5-2. The victory was the Cubs' 14th over Sutton in 16 decisions for his career. The Cubs used singles by Brock Davis, Milt Pappas and Glenn Beckert for a run in the first inning and then put together five hits, including a double by Davis, and two sacrifice flies for their other tallies in the fifth. One hit was of the infield variety by Pappas and another was a safe bunt by Don Kessinger.

Astros 2, Giants 1 at Houston (night game):
John Mayberry singled in the 12th inning for his first hit since being recalled from Oklahoma City (American Association) and drove in the run that gave the Astros a 2-1 victory over the Giants. Cesar Cedeno, who looped a two-out double into right field, scored on Mayberry's single.

Expos 5, Pirates 2 at Montreal (night game):
Bill Stoneman struck out 14, allowed only four hits and pitched the Expos to a 5-2 victory over the Pirates. Rusty Staub and John Bateman hit consecutive homers for the Expos in the third inning, Staub's smash coming with a man on base.

Mets 8, Braves 7 at New York (day game):
The Mets, who rallied to tie the score with two runs in the ninth inning and again with one run in the 10th, finally defeated the Braves, 8-7, when Tim Foli singled in the 11th, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Donn Clendenon. Orlando Cepeda batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single and Clete Boyer added another run with a single to give the Braves a 6-4 lead in the ninth. But the Mets pulled even on a walk, a double by Ed Kranepool, infield out and single by Bud Harrelson. The Braves went ahead again in the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Felix Millan, only to have the Mets rally with singles by Clendenon, Cleon Jones and Ken Boswell.

Phillies 5, Reds 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Jim Merritt paved his own way for his sixth straight defeat with an error that resulted in three unearned runs and enabled the Phillies to beat the Reds, 5-3. Roger Freed singled and Joe Lis homered for the Phillies' first two runs in the second inning. Then, in the third, after one-out singles by Lis and Mike Ryan, Merritt threw wildly to first on a bunt by Barry Lersch, allowing Lis to score. Larry Bowa flied out, but Tony Taylor walked and Willie Montanez doubled to drive in two runs.

Cardinals 7, Padres 4 at St. Louis (night game):
A five-run outburst in the first inning enabled the Cardinals to outlast the Padres, 7-4. Lou Brock led off with a single, Jim Beauchamp doubled and the first run counted on a groundout by Joe Torre. Jose Cardenal doubled to drive in Brock and scored himself on a single by Julian Javier. After a walk to Jerry McNertney, Ted Sizemore capped the inning with a two-run double. Chris Zachary, who needed relief with one out in the ninth, gained his first victory in a Cardinals' uniform and his first in the major leagues since September 24, 1967, when he pitched for the Astros and beat the Mets, 3-2.
