Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
A wild pitch by Terry Forster in the 12th inning permitted Paul Blair to score and gave the Orioles a 3-2 victory over the White Sox. Brooks Robinson saved the Orioles from defeat by driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the ninth to send the game into overtime. In the 12th, Blair, batting for Dick Hall, walked and advanced on a sacrifice by Don Buford. Davey Johnson grounded to Bill Melton, who missed an attempted tag on Blair and then threw too late to first to get Johnson. Boog Powell walked to load the bases. With Frank Robinson at bat, Forster threw a pitch into the dirt past catcher Ed Herrmann. The victory moved the Orioles into first place in the East division, four percentage points ahead of the Red Sox.

Indians 4, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Three unearned runs in the third inning enabled the Indians to defeat the Brewers, 4-2. Graig Nettles was safe on an error by Rich Auerbach to start the stanza and scored the first run on a single by Vada Pinson and forceout by Ray Fosse. Chris Chambliss doubled, Fosse stopping at third. When Danny Walton dropped a fly by Ted Uhlaender, Fosse scored. Ted Ford then singled to plate Chambliss with the third run.

Tigers 5, Twins 4 at Minnesota (night game):
After building up a 5-0 lead, the Tigers had to battle to gain a 5-4 victory over the Twins. Aurelio Rodriguez and Norm Cash had three hits apiece for the Tigers and Dick McAuliffe smashed a homer. After scoring one run in the sixth, the Twins rallied for three in the eighth, but Fred Scherman replaced Joe Coleman with two out and retired the side on one pitch, getting Steve Braun on a grounder.

Yankees 6, Red Sox 1 at New York (day game):
Sonny Siebert, who had won nine straight games for the Red Sox this season and 11 in a row dating back to 1970, was stopped on his streak by the Yankees, 6-1. Bobby Murcer hit two homers, one off Siebert and another off reliever Bill Lee. Horace Clarke collected three hits, scored one run and drove in two.

Angels 2, Senators 1 at Washington (night game):
Clyde Wright batted in what proved to be the winning run, allowed only four hits and pitched the Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Senators in a game stopped by rain after 7 1/3 innings. Wright got off to a bad start, letting the first three Senators' batters reach base, but the southpaw pitched out of that jam at the expense of only one run. The Angels came back with their runs in the second on successive singles by Tony Conigliaro, John Stephenson, Sandy Alomar and Wright.

[DH] Cubs 6, Reds 3 (night game) / Cubs 4, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Ernie Banks belted a three-run homer in the first game and Billy Williams whacked a duplicate blow in the second game to carry the Cubs to a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Reds, 6-3 and 4-1. Banks got into the opener only because Jim Hickman was hit above the left elbow by a pitched ball in the first inning. Mr. Cub clouted his homer in the seventh, smashing a 2-2 tie. Likewise, Williams cracked a 1-1 tie in the nightcap with his round-tripper in the eighth inning.

Dodgers 7, Expos 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers scored five runs on seven hits in the third inning and coasted to a 7-1 victory over the Expos. Maury Wills, Willie Crawford and Willie Davis singled, Dick Allen doubled and Jim Lefebvre, Tom Haller and Bobby Valentine singled, representing the most hits by the Dodgers in any inning so far this season. Lefebvre and Haller homered in the eighth, marking the first time this year that the Dodgers had come up with back-to-back blows. Bill Singer, who started the game, pulled a muscle and had to quit the mound after three innings. Bob O'Brien relieved and gained credit for his first major league victory.

Pirates 10, Cardinals 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates put together five straight hits and a sacrifice fly for four runs in the fourth inning and went on to trounce the Cardinals, 10-1. Dave Cash started the barrage with a double and scored on a single by Vic Davalillo and a fumble of the hit by Jose Cardenal. Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Richie Hebner followed with singles and Al Oliver made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals' run off Luke Walker in the sixth ended the string of 35 innings of scoreless pitching by the Pirates' staff.

Padres 6, Phillies 0 at San Diego (night game):
Steve Arlin pitched the Padres past the Phillies, 6-0, for his second victory of the season and third of his major league career, all by shutouts. Nate Colbert and Ivan Murrell smashed homers, Colbert's blow coming with two men on base, in support of Arlin, who limited the Phillies to five singles.

Mets 5, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
Rookie righthander Charlie Williams pitched five shutout innings of relief and received credit for his first major league victory when the Mets beat the Giants, 5-2. Marichal, who had been undefeated since April 25, was stopped on his five-game winning streak by the Mets, who tagged the Giants' ace for nine hits and all their runs.

Braves 3, Astros 1 at Atlanta (night game):
The Braves snapped their five-game losing streak on the strength of a homer by Hal King, who connected with a man on base in the seventh inning to beat the Astros, 3-1.
