Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, White Sox 1 at Baltimore (day game):
Mike Cuellar gained his eighth straight victory and 10th of the season when the Orioles defeated the White Sox. 2-1. Mark Belanger singled and scored for the Orioles in the third inning and then singled to drive in the winning run in the seventh after Tom Egan had homered for the White Sox to tie the score.

Senators 5, Angels 2 at California (day game):
Toby Harrah hit his first major league homer, connecting with a man on base in the second inning, to start the Senators' scoring in a 5-2 victory over the Angels. After Harrah's homer, the Senators added another run in the second and then iced their victory with a two-run double by Elliott Maddox in the ninth.

Indians 11, Brewers 0 at Cleveland (day game):
While the Indians piled up 15 hits, Sam McDowell yielded only two and beat the Brewers, 11-0, for his sixth straight victory. The Indians scored 10 of their runs in the first three innings with an attack that included a three-run homer by Frank Baker. Graig Nettles also batted in three runs, one with a homer and two with a bases-loaded single.

Tigers 9, Twins 5 at Detroit (day game):
The slugging of Willie Horton, who drove in five runs with a homer, double and single, paced the Tigers' 16-hit attack in a 9-5 victory over the Twins. Les Cain, who started for the Tigers, was forced to quit the mound because of a sore shoulder after retiring Cesar Tovar and walking Rod Carew in the first inning. Dean Chance, in relief, pitched the next 4 2/3 innings and received credit for the victory.

Royals 4, Red Sox 3 at Kansas City (day game):
The streaking Royals came from behind to defeat the Red Sox, 4-3, for their fifth straight victory and 11th in the last 12 games. The Royals, who were trailing, 3-1, tied the score with two runs in the fifth inning and added the deciding marker in the sixth on a single by Chuck Harrison, pass to Joe Keough and single by Jerry May, handing Sonny Siebert his third loss in a row.

Yankees 5, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
Roy White drove in three runs and scored one in support of Fritz Peterson, who pitched the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Athletics. The Yankees scored their initial run without White's help in the second inning, but the outfielder had a hand in the next four, driving in one with a sacrifice fly in the third, hitting a single and scoring in the fifth and then capping the Yankees' attack with a two-run double in the ninth.

Reds 4, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
The Reds capped their comeback with a run in the 11th inning to defeat the Cubs, 4-3. The Cubs scored all their runs in the first, two on a homer by Joe Pepitone. The Reds picked up a pair on a round-tripper by Tony Perez in the fourth and tied the score with an unearned run in the eighth. Pete Rose beat out an infield hit in the 11th. Tommy Helms sacrificed and Lee May singled to drive in the winning run.

Braves 9, Astros 0 at Houston (day game):
Earl Williams, the Braves' rookie third baseman, smashed a pair of three-run homers to help blast the Astros, 9-0. Williams hit his homers in the second and seventh innings. Hank Aaron also homered to touch off the scoring of the Braves' three other runs in the third.

Dodgers 7, Expos 1 at Montreal (day game):
Bobby Valentine collected four straight hits, including his first major league homer, and drove in four runs to lead the Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Expos. Valentine hit his homer with two men on base in the second inning. Maury Wills batted in two runs with a triple in the fifth and counted himself on a single by Willie Crawford. A single by Valentine wrapped up the Dodgers' scoring in the eighth.

Mets 5, Giants 4 at New York (day game):
Ken Singleton, who hit a two-run homer in the second inning, rapped a sacrifice fly in the 10th to enable the Mets to defeat the Giants, 5-4, in a game that was delayed three times by rain for 54, 26 and 66 minutes between the seventh and ninth innings. Singleton also singled and scored in the fourth. Ken Henderson and Bobby Bonds homered for the Giants. In the 10th, Bud Harrelson doubled and, after an intentional pass to Al Weis, Ed Kranepool sacrificed. The Giants then walked Donn Clendenon to load the bases and bring up Singleton.

Padres 9, Phillies 8 at Philadelphia (day game):
The Padres came out ahead in managerial maneuvering when Bob Barton drove in two runs with a pinch-double in the eighth inning to beat the Phillies, 9-8. Don Mason and Enzo Hernandez were on base with two out when the Padres sent Larry Stahl to bat for Garry Jestadt. When the Phillies countered by bringing in Woodie Fryman to replace Billy Wilson on the mound, Barton batted for Stahl.

Pirates 8, Cardinals 4 at St. Louis (day game):
A five-run explosion in the ninth inning carried the Pirates to an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals, who went down to their sixth straight defeat. Dave Cash, Gene Clines and Roberto Clemente started the rally with singles, tying the score at 4-4. Willie Stargell sent the Pirates ahead with a sacrifice fly. After a single by Manny Sanguillen, Richie Hebner smashed a three-run homer.
