Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Brewers 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Brooks Robinson and Paul Blair belted two-run homers in support of Dave McNally's pitching as the Orioles defeated the Brewers, 8-3. Roberto Pena and Tommy Harper homered off McNally, but the lefthander allowed only four other hits in racking up his 10th victory of the season.

Red Sox 4, Angels 1 at California (night game):
Although giving up nine hits and walking six, Jim Lonborg struggled through his first complete game for the Red Sox this season and beat the Angels, 4-1. Clyde Wright, pitching for the Angels, yielded only one hit in eight innings but was the loser when the Red Sox scored two unearned runs in the second on a walk, an error, a passed ball and a single by Lonborg. The Red Sox added their other pair off Dave LaRoche in the ninth on a single by John Kennedy and homer by Carl Yastrzemski.

Twins 3, Indians 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Rod Carew collected four hits in four official trips to lead the Twins to a 3-2 victory over the Indians. With the score tied, 1-1, Carew tripled in the ninth inning and scored on a single by Cesar Tovar. A single by Tony Oliva sent Tovar to third and, after Harmon Killebrew struck out, Rich Reese hit a sacrifice fly to plate what proved to be the winning run. The Indians counted in their half of the ninth on a pair of walks and a single by Graig Nettles before Stan Williams saved the game.

Tigers 6, White Sox 5 at Detroit (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Ed Brinkman and squeeze bunt by Aurelio Rodriguez produced two runs in the eighth inning and accounted for the Tigers' 6-5 victory over the White Sox. A walk to Norm Cash and infield hits by Gates Brown and Jim Northrup loaded the bases. Brinkman's fly tied the score at 5-5. After Jim Price walked to reload the bases, Rodriguez laid down a bunt to score the winning run.

Yankees 3, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals' failures to get a forceout at the plate with the bases loaded in the eighth inning resulted in their defeat by the Yankees, 3-2. Tom Burgmeier, in relief of Bruce Dal Canton, gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases liefore yielding the mound to Ted Abernathy. Felipe Alou then grounded to Rich Severson, but the shortstop's throw home failed to force Jerry Kenney, who scored the run that broke the 2-2 tie.

A's 5, Senators 1 at Oakland (night game):
Mike Epstein tied a major league record, hitting two homers for a string of four in as many consecutive times at bat, and Vida Blue gained his 14th victory of the season as the Athletics defeated the Senators, 5-1. All five of the A's runs were produced by homers off Denny McLain in the first three innings. Epstein, who hit homers in his last two trips in the previous night's game, made it four in a row with round-trippers in the first and third innings. Joe Rudi also hit two homers and Dave Duncan accounted for the other wallop.

Braves 6, Cubs 5 at Chicago (day game):
The Braves took advantage of an error by Ken Holtzman and scored five unearned runs to defeat the Cubs, 6-5. After Zoilo Versalles and Mike Lum singled, Holtzman bobbled a bunt by Bob Didier. Jim Nash went out, but Felix Millan scored Versalles with a sacrifice fly. Sonny Jackson singled to drive in Lum. Hank Aaron followed with a two-run double and then scored himself on a double by Orlando Cepeda. The Braves' only earned run of the game proved a winner in the seventh when Jackson tripled and Aaron singled.

Pirates 6, Astros 4 at Houston (night game):
Thanks to a homer by Roberto Clemente, Dock Ellis gained his 10th victory of the season when the Pirates defeated the Astros, 6-4. Gene Clines, who played in place of Willie Stargell and collected four hits, singled in the seventh inning and Clemente followed with his homer to break a 4-4 tie.

Expos 2, Padres 0 at Montreal (night game):
A single by Cito Gaston with one out in the seventh inning was the only hit off Bill Stoneman, who struck out 14 and pitched the Expos to a 2-0 victory over the Padres. The Expos counted their runs in the fifth on a walk, a sacrifice, double by Clyde Mashore, a wild pitch and single by Stoneman.

Mets 7, Dodgers 2 at New York (day game):
Mike Jorgensen, playing in his first game since being recalled from Tidewater (International), smashed two homers to help the Mets defeat the Dodgers, 7-2. The outfielder homered in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1 and then put the finishing touches on the victory with a round-tripper in the eighth. The Mets broke the 1-1 tie with a run in the fifth and broke away with three more in the sixth, two scoring on a single by Bud Harrelson.

Phillies 6, Giants 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Capitalizing on an error by Al Gallagher, the Phillies scored four unearned runs in the second inning and defeated the Giants, 6-3. After a single by John Vukovich and pass to Denny Doyle, two were out when Terry Harmon grounded to Gallagher, who threw wildly, allowing two runs to cross the plate. Tim McCarver followed with a homer to drive in another pair.

Reds 1, Cardinals 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Pete Rose's hustle prevented a double play in the first inning, and as a result the Reds scored the run that produced a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals behind the four-hit hurling of Don Gullett. Rose opened the game with a single off Al Santorini, making his first start for the Cardinals since being obtained from the Padres. Hal McRae grounded to Dal Maxvill, but Rose beat the shortstop's throw to second, although the relay to first caught McRae. Lee May then singled, scoring Rose.
