Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 9, Orioles 4 at Baltimore (night game):
This game was suspended after 13 innings and resumed the following day.

Red Sox 10, Senators 4 at Boston (night game):
The biggest single-inning outburst by the Red Sox this season produced seven runs in the eighth and beat the Senators, 10-4. The Red Sox used two second basemen, Doug Griffin and John Kennedy, and each hit a homer. Griffin's blow in the third inning was the first of his major league career. Kennedy hit his first of the season to tie the score at 3-3 in the seventh. The Red Sox' outburst in the eighth included a two-run single by Carl Yastrzemski and two-run homer by Rico Petrocelli.

Royals 3, Angels 0 at California (night game):
Paul Splittorff, the Royals' rookie lefthander, shut out the Angels, 3-0, for his second complete-game victory over the California club in 10 days.

Brewers 7, White Sox 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
A five-run start in the first inning carried the Brewers to a 7-4 victory over the White Sox. Vicente Romo, making his first start of the season for the White Sox, retired only one batter before being kayoed. After Tommy Harper opened with a single, Romo retired Ron Theobald, but Dave May singled and Johnny Briggs walked to load the bases. The White Sox failed to execute the forceout at second on a grounder by Rob Ellis, Harper scoring, and when Rich McKinney threw wildly to first, May also crossed the plate. The other runners advanced on the error and scored on a single by Roberto Pena, who took second on the throw to the plate and counted the fifth run of the frame on a single by Ellie Rodriguez.

[DH] Indians 3, Yankees 0 (night game) / Indians 5, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
The Indians broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the ninth inning to win the first game of a doubleheader, 3-0, and then beat the Yankees again in the second game, 5-2. Fritz Peterson, pitching the opener for the Yankees, yielded only four hits until the ninth when the Indians erupted for their runs on three singles, two outfield errors and a pair of sacrifice flies. Ray Lamb was the winner with the aid of Steve Mingori. In the nightcap, the Indians snapped a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with two runs on singles by Ray Fosse, Frank Baker, Kurt Bevacqua and Jack Heidemann.

A's 6, Twins 4 at Oakland (night game):
Bert Campaneris and Joe Rudi each rapped two hits and scored two runs apiece to lead the Athletics to a 6-4 victory over the Twins. After hitting singles in the first inning, both scored on a double by Reggie Jackson. Rudi reached base again on a forceout in the fourth and subsequently counted on a single by Sal Bando. Then, in the eighth, Campaneris batted in a run with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Rudi.

Dodgers 6, Cubs 4 at Chicago (day game):
The batting of Willie Crawford and Wes Parker figured in the scoring of all of the Dodgers' runs in a 6-4 victory over the Cubs. Crawford started with a homer in the first inning. Crawford walked in the third, Willie Davis singled and both scored on a single by Parker, who also crossed the plate on a double by Tom Haller. Crawford set up another run with a single in the fourth and batted in the Dodgers' final tally with a double in the sixth.

[DH] Astros 6, Braves 5 (night game) / Astros 6, Braves 4 at Houston (night game):
The Astros built up an early lead in the first game and then came from behind in the second game to beat the Braves in a twi-night doubleheader, 6-5 and 6-4. The Astros started the lidlifter with a pair in the first inning and followed with four runs in the third. Jim Wynn walked and scored on singles by Denis Menke and Doug Rader. Jack Hiatt doubled to plate Menke and when Ralph Garr fumbled the ball in the outfield, Rader also scored. Marty Martinez then singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run. In the nightcap, Cesar Cedeno led the Astros at bat with a homer, triple and single, driving in three runs. The Astros wiped out a 4-3 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning. Rich Chiles walked and counted the tying tally on Cedeno's triple. Bob Watson sent the Astros ahead with a single and Menke added an insurance run with a double.

[DH] Reds 4, Expos 3 (night game) / Reds 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
Lee May smashed three hits, including a homer, in each game of a twi-night doubleheader to lead the Reds to 4-3 and 5-4 victories over the Expos. In addition to the homer by May in the fifth inning of the first game, the Reds also had one by George Foster, who connected in the sixth to provide what proved to be the deciding run. In the second game, May singled in the ninth and gave way to Buddy Bradford, who stole second and continued to third on a wild throw by John Boccabella. Johnny Bench then singled for his fourth hit of the game to drive in the winning run.

Mets 3, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Rick Wise, making his first start since pitching a no-hitter against the Reds June 23, was rapped for 11 hits by the Mets, who defeated the Phillies, 3-1. Tommie Agee collected four hits, including a homer for the Mets' first run in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1. Agee opened the eighth with a single and took third on a single by Bud Harrelson. After Agee was caught in a rundown on a grounder by Cleon Jones, Ed Kranepool was retired. The Phillies then decided to pass Art Shamsky intentionally, loading the bases, and the move backfired when Ken Boswell singled to drive in two runs.

Padres 6, Giants 2 at San Diego (night game):
Dave Campbell, who went into the game batting only .213, drove in three runs with a double off Juan Marichal in the fifth inning as the Padres defeated the Giants, 6-2. A double by Leron Lee and singles by Cito Gaston and Ed Spiezio gave the Padres one run before an error by Chris Speier loaded the bases. Clay Kirby forced Gaston at the plate and Enzo Hernandez popped up, but Campbell then hit his double to beat Marichal.

Pirates 11, Cardinals 5 at St. Louis (night game):
Two big scoring innings -- five runs in the first and six in the fourth -- marked the Pirates' 11-5 victory over the Cardinals. The big blow in the first inning was a bases-loaded triple by Manny Sanguillen. Roberto Clemente and Bob Robertson each drove in two runs with singles in the fourth.
