Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Yankees 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A grand-slam homer by Brooks Robinson, his second of the season and sixth of his career, enabled Pat Dobson to gain his 18th victory as the Orioles defeated the Yankees, 6-2. The Yankees took a two-run lead in the first inning, but Frank Robinson homered for the Orioles in the second and Andy Etchebarren tied the score with a circuit clout in the seventh. Paul Blair led off with a single in the eighth and Davey Johnson walked. After Roger Hambright relieved, Merv Rettenmund went out, but Frank Robinson singled to load the bases, setting the stage for Brooks Robinson's jackpot wallop.

Red Sox 10, Indians 7 at Cleveland (night game):
Rick Miller, rookie outfielder with the Red Sox, hit his first major league homer with two men on base and drove in another run with a single to lead the attack in a 10-7 victory over the Indians. Rico Petrocelli and Joe Lahoud also homered for the Red Sox, while the Indians had round-trippers by Vada Pinson and Ray Fosse. Pinch-hitter Mike Fiore delivered the key blow for the Red Sox in the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie. Petrocelli walked to open the stanza. After the next two batters struck out, Carlton Fisk singled. Fiore came to the plate and doubled, driving in two runs, and scored himself on a double by Doug Griffin.

Tigers 3, Senators 1 at Detroit (day game):
Ron Perranoski, obtained from the Twins July 30, received credit for his first save in a Detroit uniform when the Tigers defeated the Senators, 3-1. Perranoski replaced Les Cain with two men on base and none out in the seventh inning, put down a threat and yielded only one hit the rest of the way. After Jeff Burroughs homered for the Senators in the second, the Tigers went ahead to stay with two runs in the fifth on a single by Cain, double by Dick McAuliffe, sacrifice fly by Aurelio Rodriguez and single by Norm Cash.

Angels 2, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Clyde Wright, who pitched hitless ball for the first six innings, was the winner in a duel with Dick Drago when the Angels defeated the Royals, 2-1. The Angels bunched three singles for a run in the fourth and added the deciding tally in the fifth when Ken Berry doubled, took third on an infield hit by Jeff Torborg and scored as Wright grounded into a double play. Paul Schaal doubled in the seventh for the Royals' first hit off Wright and scored their run on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Lou Piniella.

Twins 7, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
A four-run rally by the Twins in the seventh inning produced a 7-3 victory over the Brewers. Harmon Killebrew homered for the Twins in the first inning, but the Brewers came back with three runs off Ray Corbin in their half. However, three Twins' relievers combined to blank the Brewers on two hits the rest of the way. In vseventh, Steve Brye and Rick Dempsey singled to kayo Lew Krausse. Ken Sanders, the Brewers' ace reliever, took over but was unequal to the task this time. Sanders retired Tony Oliva for the second out, but singles by Cesar Tovar and Rod Carew, a pass to Killebrew and single by Steve Braun gave the Twins their four runs and pinned the loss on Sanders.

Braves 4, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
A career-long nemesis of the Astros, Pat Jarvis beat them for the fourth straight time this season, pitching four scoreless innings of relief for the Braves to receive credit for a 4-3 victory. Jarvis entered the game with the score tied, 3-3, and was handed the winning run in the eighth when the Braves counted on two walks and a single by Sonny Jackson. The victory was Jarvis' 16th against two defeats in career meetings with the Astros.

Padres 4, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Three homers in support of Fred Norman's pitching carried the Padres to a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers, who missed an opportunity to move into a tie with the Giants for the West division lead. An infield hit by Leron Lee and double by Larry Stahl produced a run for the Padres in the second inning. The Dodgers pulled even with singles by Doyle Alexander and Willie Davis around a sacrifice in the fifth, but the Padres then went into their slugging act with homers by Nate Colbert in the sixth, Stahl in the seventh and Johnny Jeter in the eighth.

Cubs 1, Mets 0 at New York (day game):
Juan Pizarro decided his own duel with Tom Seaver by hitting a homer in the eighth inning to give the Cubs a 1-0 victory over the Mets. The defeat snapped a seven-game winning streak for Seaver, who had gone unbeaten since his previous loss to Pizarro, 3-2, August 1.

Expos 6, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Steve Renko gave up back-to-back homers by Willie Montanez and Deron Johnson in the third inning but otherwise was invincible in pitching the Expos to a 6-2 victory over the Phillies. The homers put the Phillies ahead, 2-1, but the Expos tied the score in the sixth with doubles by Boots Day and Rusty Staub before taking command of the game with two runs in the seventh on a two-base error by Johnson, a late throw to third on a grounder by Gary Sutherland, a sacrifice fly by John Bateman and single by Ron Hunt.

Pirates 6, Cardinals 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates virtually extinguished the Cardinals' faint division hopes by gaining a 6-1 victory to increase their first-place lead to 9½ games. Two walks, a single by Gene Clines, sacrifice fly by Roberto Clemente and single by Manny Sanguillen produced two runs for the Pirates in the third inning. Al Oliver was hit by a pitch in the fourth, Jackie Hernandez singled and both runners circled the bases when Jose Cruz let the ball get past him in center field. However, the runs became earned when Luke Walker walked and Rennie Stennett singled. For the second straight time, Ramon Hernandez, a former St. Louis farmhand, stopped the Cards in relief.

Reds 8, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Ross Grimsley pitched a three-hitter and George Foster came back to haunt his former teammates with a grand-slam homer as the Reds defeated the Giants, 8-1. Despite the loss, the Giants retained their one-game lead in the West division when the Dodgers also were beaten by the Padres. The Reds were leading only 2-1 before exploding for five runs in the eighth. Pete Rose reached base on a throwing error by Chris Speier, stole second and scored on a single by Lee May. Don McMahon relieved John Cumberland, Johnny Bench walked and Hal McRae was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Foster's grand slam. Rose accounted for the final run with a homer in the ninth.
