Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 3, Royals 2 at Chicago (day game):
Dick Allen, who hit a homer and triple to drive in the first two runs for the White Sox, also singled and scored on an error in the eighth inning to beat the Royals, 3-2. After his single, Allen advanced on a single by Bill Melton. Carlos May then grounded to John Mayberry, who threw to second, forcing Melton, but Bobby Floyd's return throw in an attempted double play went wild and Allen scored on the error.

Indians 2, Orioles 1 at Cleveland (day game):
Gaylord Perry doubled to spark the Indians' scoring and pitched a seven-hitter to defeat the Orioles, 2-1. Perry led off the third inning with his two-bagger and crossed the plate when Mike Cuellar threw wildly to first on a bunt by Del Unser. After Eddie Leon sacrificed, Graig Nettles singled to score Unser with the run that proved decisive. The Orioles counted in the ninth on a double by Terry Crowley and single by Don Baylor.

Brewers 3, Tigers 0 at Milwaukee (day game):
The Brewers' "S" trio of Jim Slaton, Earl Stephenson and Ken Sanders combined to shut out the Tigers, 3-0. Another "S" -- George Scott -- doubled to drive in two runs in the fourth inning. Billy Conigliaro homered for the other tally in the sixth.

Jim Panther received credit in relief for his first major league victory.

Coming back after the Reds scored two runs in the 11th inning, the Braves pulled the game out of the fire with a three-run rally that produced a 4-3 victory. Two were out when Darrell Evans ignited the rally with a homer. Mike Lum followed with a single and pinch-hitter Jim Breazeale doubled to tie the score, Following a walk to Dusty Baker, Felix Millan singled and Gil Garrido, running for Breazeale, raced home with the winning marker. Bob Barton led off the eighth with a single and Don Mason ran for him. Enzo Hernandez also singled, Mason stopping at second. When Clay Kirby bunted, all runners were safe on a late throw to third. Dave Campbell was retired before Thomas came through with his fly.
