Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 6, Indians 0 at Chicago (night game):
Working with only two days' rest, Wilbur Wood pitched the White Sox to a 6-0 victory over the Indians for his third shutout in eight days. In 36 innings so far this season, the veteran knuckleballer had allowed only one run (a homer by Bob Oliver of the Royals with two out in the ninth April 15) for an ERA of 0.25.

Royals 3, Orioles 0 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals ended a six-game losing streak when Dick Drago pitched a two-hitter and defeated the Orioles, 3-0. The Royals scored two of their runs off Pat Dobson in the second inning on singles by John Mayberry, Lou Piniella and Cookie Rojas, an intentional pass to Jerry May and forceout by Drago. Bob Oliver tripled and Rojas singled for the other run in the eighth.

Angels 4, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Angels broke their five-game losing streak by defeating the Brewers, 4-1. Clyde Wright, who pitched a four-hitter, sealed his own victory by driving in the Angels' last two runs with a double in the seventh inning.

Twins 12, Red Sox 0 at Minnesota (day game):
While Jim Perry hurled a four-hitter, the Twins piled up 16 hits and walloped the Red Sox, 12-0. Steve Braun rapped four hits, Steve Brye collected three and between them they drove in seven runs.

A's 4, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
A pinch-double by Mike Hegan with two out in the 12th inning scored Bobby Brooks and gave the Athletics a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. Brooks walked with one away and Dick Green sacrifced before Hegan batted for Rollie Fingers.

Tigers 4, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers were handed their first defeat in Arlington Stadium after four straight victories, when they collected only four hits off Mickey Lolich and lost to the Tigers, 4-1. Tony Taylor had the biggest hit for the Bengals, driving in two runs with a triple in the second inning.

Braves 9, Cardinals 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Homers by Earl Williams and Hank Aaron, each with a man on base, helped power the Braves to a 9-3 victory over the Cardinals. Williams connected in the first inning when the Braves broke away with four runs off Bob Gibson. Aaron's homer in the second inning was his third in three games and 642nd of his major league career. Ted Simmons hit the Cardinals' first homer of the season in the seventh.

Astros 5, Cubs 4 at Houston (night game):
A disputed run in the seventh inning enabled the Astros to edge the Cubs, 5-4. Jerry Reuss, who was on third base, came home on a fly by Jim Wynn, but thought he had the missed plate and was returning to touch it when tagged by catcher Randy Hundley. However, umpire Frank Pulli called Reuss safe, ruling he actually had touched the plate with his hand the first time he slid across it.

Dodgers 6, Expos 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Don Sutton gained credit for his third straight victory when the Dodgers defeated the Expos, 6-1. Sutton was forced to quit the mound with two out in the eighth inning when hit on the knee by a line drive. Pete Richert finished. Frank Robinson drove in two of the Dodgers' runs with a pair of singles.

Pirates 5, Reds 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Breaking up a three-hour, 36-minute game, Richie Hebner homered with two men on base in the 13th inning to lift the Pirates to a 5-2 victory over the Reds. Roberto Clemente drew a walk and, after two out, advanced to second on a wild pitch. The Reds then passed Manny Sanguillen intentionally, but the move was wrecked with Hebner's homer.

Mets 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Two unearned runs in the seventh inning enabled the Mets to defeat the Padres, 2-1, with Buzz Capra receiving credit for his first major league victory. Nate Colbert homered for the Padres in the second. In the seventh, after singles by Tommie Agee and Rusty Staub, Cleon Jones fouled out and Jim Fregosi flied out. Steve Arlin picked Agee off second, but in the rundown Derrel Thomas threw wildly to third, allowing Agee to score. Staub reached third and also crossed the plate when Larry Stahl dropped a short fly by Ed Kranepool.

Phillies 3, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
After giving up a leadoff single to Chris Speier, Steve Carlton did not yield a hit the rest of the way in pitching the Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Giants. Carlton struck out 14, tying the Phillies' club record for a lefthander set by Chris Short against the Dodgers September 13, 1963.
