Today's scores and summaries:

Expos 7, Dodgers 5 at Los Angeles (night game):
Led by Ron Hunt, who rapped three singles and drove in two runs, the Expos built up a 7-1 lead and stood off the Dodgers, 7-5. Although Al Downing was pinned with the defeat, the Expos decided the outcome against Hoyt Wilhelm in the seventh inning, scoring their final three runs off the veteran reliever on four hits, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.

Reds 5, Pirates 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Ted Uhlaender drove in a run with his first N. L. hit to help the Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. With the score tied, 3-3, Joe Morgan singled to lead off the ninth inning and stole second. Following an intentional pass to Bobby Tolan, Morgan and Tolan worked a double steal. After Johnny Bench popped up, the Pirates decided to pass Tony Perez, loading the bases. Uhlaender then singled, driving in the tie-breaking run, and Denis Menke hit a sacrifice fly to plate what proved to be the winning tally. The Pirates scored once in their half of the ninth on a double by Al Oliver and a pair of infield outs.

Mets 4, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
Don Zimmer's debut as manager of the Padres, succeeding Preston Gomez, was spoiled in a 4-3 loss to the Mets. Rusty Staub's first homer in a New York uniform, a pass to Jim Fregosi and triple by Jerry Grote gave the Mets a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Padres tied the score in their half with the aid of doubles by Nate Colbert and Dave Campbell, but the Mets went ahead again in the sixth when Tommie Agee doubled and Cleon Jones singled. Grote then homered in the seventh to supply what proved to be the deciding run.

Phillies 7, Giants 6 at San Francisco (day game):
The Phillies smashed four homers, capping their attack with a circuit clout by Greg Luzinski in the ninth inning, to defeat the Giants, 7-6. The Phillies' other homers included a drive by Deron Johnson with two men on base and a pair of solo swats by Don Money. Dave Kingman drove in three of the Giants' runs with a single, homer and infield out.
