Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 12, Angels 2 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles snapped their four-game losing streak by erupting for 16 hits to defeat the Angels, 12-2. Davey Johnson had a double for the Orioles' only extra-base blow, plus two singles, and drove in three runs.

Tigers 12, White Sox 0 at Detroit (night game):
Tom Timmerman pitched a three-hitter and posted his first major league shutout as the Tigers piled up a 12-0 victory over the White Sox, who were stopped on a seven-game winning streak. Norm Cash and Ed Brinkman drove in four runs apiece.

Royals 4, Indians 0 at Kansas City (night game):
John Mayberry smashed his first A. L. homer to start the Royals off to a 4-0 victory over the Indians behind the five-hit hurling of Paul Splittorff. Cookie Rojas drove in the two other runs with a double and sacrifice fly.

A's 5, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
Sending 10 men to bat, the Athletics scored four runs on just three singles in the sixth inning to defeat the Brewers, 5-1. A single by Gene Tenace and three walks produced the first run and three others followed on a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris and singles by Joe Rudi and Reggie Jackson. Ken Holtzman, the A's winner, picked Johnny Briggs off base with the bases loaded and two out in the Brewers' half of the sixth to end a major threat to his victory.

Twins 4, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
Bobby Darwin hit a two-run homer and Cesar Tovar drove in two more runs with a triple as the Twins exploded in the seventh inning to defeat the Yankees, 4-1.

Rangers 9, Red Sox 6 at Texas (night game):
Playing his first game in a Texas uniform, Ted Ford whacked a three-run homer in the seventh inning to provide the Rangers with a 9-6 victory over the Red Sox. Lenny Randle opened the seventh with a double and counted on a two-out single by Tom Grieve to tie the score at 6-6. Frank Howard then walked and Ford followed with his game-winning smash.

Cubs 10, Reds 8 at Chicago (day game):
Welcoming the return of manager Leo Durocher, who had been ill, the Cubs defeated the Reds, 10-8, to snap their eight-game losing streak. Jim Hickman, subbing for Joe Pepltone, who was sidelined with a stomach ache, smashed a pair of three-run homers to lead the Cubs' attack. Rick Monday and Jose Cardenal also hit for the circuit in support of Fergie Jenkins, who staggered to his first victory of the year.

Cardinals 7, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
With Joe Torre as chief gunner, the Cardinals shot down the Astros, 7-2, to end the Houston club's nine-game winning streak. Torre collected four hits including a triple and double, and drove in three runs. Last year's batting champ also scored twice on sacrifice flies by Joe Hague.

Mets 6, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Tommie Agee hit a grand-slam homer in the eighth inning to climax the Mets' scoring in a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers before a crowd of 51,210. With the score tied, Jerry Grote singled and when Jon Matlack bunted both runners were safe on a late throw to second. Bud Harrelson singled to load the bases and Ken Boswell followed with a single to drive in the tie-breaking run before Agee iced the game with his slam.

Braves 13, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Exploding for eight runs in the sixth inning, the Braves defeated the Pirates, 13-5. Hank Aaron ignited the outburst with a single and then, on his second trip to the plate in the stanza, singled again to drive in two runs.

Phillies 3, Padres 0 at San Diego (night game):
Woodie Fryman yielded only six hits and pitched the Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Padres. The Phillies needed four singles to score one run in the fourth inning, but their other tallies came easier. Tim McCarver walked and counted on a double by Tommy Hutton in the fifth and wound up the scoring with a homer in the seventh.

Expos 8, Giants 6 at San Francisco (night game):
Pinch-hitter Jim Fairey drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the ninth inning to give the Expos an 8-6 victory over the Giants. With one away, Bob Bailey and Mike Jorgensen singled. Clyde Mashore struck out, but Ken Singleton walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Fairey's hit.
