Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Angels 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Don Baylor accounted for three runs with his first A.L. homer and Brooks Robinson also drove in three runs to pace the Orioles to a 6-1 victory over the Angels. Robinson produced his RBIs with a double and single. Baylor hit his homer in the seventh inning.

Tigers 6, White Sox 1 at Detroit (day game):
In a meeting of veteran lefthanders, Mickey Lolich triumphed over Wilbur Wood and pitched the Tigers to a 6-1 victory over the White Sox. Wood, who had pitched three straight shutouts, had his string broken in the first inning when the Tigers scored on a pass to Tony Taylor, an infield out, stolen base and sacrifice fly by Al Kaline. A triple by Willie Horton, a wild pitch and homer by Mickey Stanley added two runs in the second. Bill Freehan kayoed Wood with a two-run homer in the third. Dick Allen saved the White Sox from being shut out with a circuit clout in the fourth before Horton ended the Tigers' scoring with a homer off Vicente Romo in the sixth.

Indians 3, Royals 1 at Kansas City (day game):
Milt Wilcox pitched a four-hitter and also beat out a bunt to lead the way to the Indians' 3-1 victory over the Royals. The score was tied, 1-1, when Wilcox reached base on his bunt in the eighth inning. Del Unser also bunted safely. After a sacrifice by Jack Brohamer, Roy Foster hit a sacrifice fly to score Wilcox and Tommy McCraw followed with a double to plate Unser.

A's 2, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
The Athletics scored two runs in the first inning on a bases-loaded single by Dave Duncan and made those tallies stand up for a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Duncan delivered his hit after a walk to Joe Rudi, single by Reggie Jackson, a passed ball and an intentional pass to Mike Epstein. Dave May accounted for the Brewers' run with a homer in the sixth. Bob Heise and Joe Lahoud of the Brewers collided going after a short fly in the eighth and both had to leave the game for repairs. Catfish Hunter was the A's winner with the help of Rollie Fingers, who ended a Milwaukee threat in the ninth.

Twins 2, Yankees 0 at New York (day game):
A triple by Harmon Killebrew in the first inning scored Danny Thompson and Rod Carew, who were on base with singles, and gave the Twins a 2-0 victory over the Yankees. Jim Kaat, making his first appearance of the year for the Twins after being bothered by tendinitis, pitched six innings and allowed only four hits. Dave LaRoche finished with hitless relief.

Rangers 7, Red Sox 6 at Texas (day game):
A single by Ken Suarez with the bases loaded in the ninth inning enabled the Rangers to edge the Red Sox, 7-6. The Rangers' first three runs came on the 362nd homer of Frank Howard's career, moving the slugger into 20th place on the all-time list ahead of Joe DiMaggio. After the Red Sox tied the score at 6-6 in the ninth, Dave Nelson singled for the Rangers and Ted Kubiak and Dick Billings walked to fill the sacks for Suarez' appearance.

Reds 3, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
The Reds rallied for two runs in the ninth inning with the aid of an error by Don Kessinger and a mental boner by Glenn Beckert to defeat the Cubs, 3-2. Johnny Bench and Tony Perez led off with singles. When Ted Uhlaender bunted, Kessinger raced over to cover third but failed to hold the throw by Dan McGinn and Cesar Geronimo, running for Bench, scored the tying run. Perez, who reached third, held up there when Denis Menke, as the next batter, forced Uhlaender. Dave Concepcion then grounded to Glenn Beckert, who took his eye off Perez and threw to first. Perez broke for home and beat Jim Hickman's throw from first to score the winning run.

Cardinals 4, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
Taking advantage of Ken Forsch's defensive difficulties, the Cardinals scored two runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Astros, 4-2. Forsch knocked down a grounder by Matty Alou but was unable to locate the ball in time to throw out the Cardinal batter, who reached first with his fourth hit of the game. Joe Torre followed with a single, pinch-runner Luis Melendez stopping at second. Joe Hague then bunted to Forsch, who threw wildly to third trying for a forceout, and Melendez scored on the error. Jerry McNertney added an extra run with a single.

Dodgers 11, Mets 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Starting with four runs in the first inning, the Dodgers bombed their way to an 11-1 victory over the Mets, who were stopped on a seven-game winning streak. The Mets picked up their run in the first on a double by Ted Martinez and single by Rusty Staub, but they were overwhelmed thereafter. In the Dodgers' first, Manny Mota singled and Willie Davis and Frank Robinson followed with back-to-back homers. Jim Lefebvre then doubled and scored on a double by Dick Dietz. Bill Russell homered in the sixth.

Braves 9, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (day game):
The Pirates' strategy in issuing two intentional passes in the third inning went awry when the Braves erupted for four runs to take charge in a 9-5 victory. With the score tied, 1-1, Ralph Garr singled for the Braves and scored on a double by Rico Carty. The Pirates then walked Earl Williams to get at Dusty Baker, who was batting only .043, but Baker upset the move with a double to drive in Carty. The Pirates then also passed Paul Casanova and their strategy again went wrong when Marty Perez singled to drive in two runs.

Padres 4, Phillies 0 at San Diego (night game):
Steve Arlin yielded only five hits and pitched the Padres to a 4-0 victory over the Phillies. The Padres tagged Carlton for their first two runs on a bases-loaded single by Bob Barton in the seventh inning. A walk to Derrel Thomas, a stolen base, single by Nate Colbert and Cito Gaston's second double of the game added the other pair in the eighth.

Expos 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Mike Torrez, making his first start of the season for the Expos, pitched a five-hitter and beat the Giants, 2-1. The Expos counted both their runs in the third inning on a double by John Boccabella, triple by Tim Foli and error by Dave Kingman. The Giants picked up their lone tally in the home half on singles by Chris Arnold and Chris Speier around a bunt by Steve Stone.
