Today's scores and summaries:

Phillies 2, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Willie Montanez hit a two-run homer with two out in the eighth inning to give the Phillies a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers. Terry Harmon walked before Montanez smashed his drive off Claude Osteen. Dick Selma pitched a three-hitter for the fifth consecutive complete game by the Phillies' staff. The Dodgers mounted a major threat against Selma by loading the bases with one out in their half of the eighth, but scored only once on a sacrifice fly by Willie Crawford.

Astros 9, Pirates 8 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Although Jim Wynn hit a grand-slam homer and Johnny Edwards connected for the circuit with two men on base, the Astros had to struggle to defeat the Pirates, 9-8. Both homers were hit off Steve Blass and staked the Astros to a 7-3 lead, but the Pirates tied the score with four runs in the sixth inning. Roberto Clemente capped the rally with a two-run homer. The Astros broke the tie with a pair in the ninth on singles by Wynn, Lee May and Bob Watson, a wild pitch by Dave Giusti and sacrifice fly by Tommy Helms. Jim Ray, who pitched the last two innings for the Astros, gave up a run to the Pirates in their half of the ninth on a double by Clemente and single by Al Oliver but then clamped down to finish with credit for his fourth straight victory, all in relief.

Mets 7, Giants 4 at San Francisco (day game):
Tom Seaver was tagged for three homers and was lifted after 6 2/3 innings but received credit for his fourth straight victory when the Mets defeated the Giants, 7-4. Bud Harrelson and Cleon Jones each drove in two runs for the Mets, one of Harrelson's RBIs coming on the third homer of his eight years in a New York uniform. The Giants' homers, accounting for all their runs, were hit by Dave Rader, Chris Speier and Ken Henderson. Rader's blow in the third inning was the first of the young catcher's major league career.
