Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 6, Royals 1 at Detroit (day game):
Although tagged for 10 hits, Mickey Lolich scattered them effectively and pitched the Tigers to a 6-1 victory over the Royals. Singles by Cookie Rojas, Amos Otis and John Mayberry produced the Royals' run in the first inning. Mickey Stanley and Willie Horton homered for the Tigers, Horton's blow coming with a man on base.

Twins 7, Brewers 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Bobby Darwin drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly and his sixth homer of the season to provide the principal support for Bert Blyleven, who pitched the Twins to a 7-0 victory over the Brewers.

Indians 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
All three runs in the game were unearned when the Indians defeated the Rangers, 2-1, in a duel between Milt Wilcox and Pete Broberg. The Indians' first run, in the second inning, resulted from an error by Dave Nelson. The Rangers scored on a wild throw by Ray Fosse in the third. Graig Nettles singled for the Indians in the sixth and when Ted Kubiak threw wide of second on a grounder by Tommy McCraw, both runners were safe. Fosse grounded up the middle to Lenny Randle, who had no play at first but fired the ball home. Dick Billings, however, dropped the throw and Nettles scored the deciding run on the error.

Cubs 12, Braves 1 at Chicago (day game):
For the second straight day, the Cubs walloped the Braves by the same score of 12-1. Jose Cardenal led the Cubs' 17-hit attack with a triple, double and two singles, driving in five runs. Billy Williams had three hits, including a three-run homer. Jim Hickman also hit for the circuit. Fergie Jenkins pitched out of his only troublesome spot in the sixth inning when the Braves scored on a sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans with the bases loaded.

Phillies 5, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Steve Carlton, who was effective against the Dodgers while with the Cardinals, continued his mastery by pitching the Phillies to a 5-1 victory, bringing his career record to 8-2 against the L. A. club. Don Money drove in two of the Phillies' runs with a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning. A double by Steve Garvey and single by Bill Russell produced the Dodgers' run in the fifth. A single by Tommy Hutton drove in one run and two others scored on an error by Russell as the Phillies completed their scoring in the eighth.

Pirates 3, Astros 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates ended their six-game losing streak when Dock Ellis and Bruce Kison combined to beat the Astros, 3-2. Ellis, who had been sidelined with a bruised heel, made his first start since April 25 and pitched six innings. The Pirates, after picking up an unearned run off Jerry Reuss in the first inning, added their other tallies in the second on a single by Richie Hebner, pass to Dave Cash and triple by Rennie Stennett, who played in place of the ailing Willie Stargell.

Padres 3, Expos 2 at San Diego (day game):
A single by Leron Lee scored Enzo Hernandez with two out in the 14th inning to give the Padres a 3-2 victory over the Expos. Don Mason opened the stanza with a pinch single, but Derrel Thomas forced Mason and Hernandez, in turn, forced Thomas. However, Hernandez then stole second, leading to a change of pitchers by the Expos. Denny Lemaster replaced Tom Walker and, on his first delivery, Lee hit his single to end the game.

Mets 8, Giants 5 at San Francisco (day game):
The Mets, after building up a 4-1 lead, exploded for four more runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Giants, 8-5. Tommie Agee, who hit two doubles and a single, figured in the scoring of three of the Mets' first four runs. In the eighth, Jim Fregosi tripled and counted on a double by Ed Kranepool. After advancing to third while Jerry Grote was being retired, Kranepool crossed the plate on a bunt single by Jon Matlack. With two out, Ted Martinez tripled to score Matlack and came home himself on a throwing error by Tito Fuentes.

Cardinals 2, Reds 1 at St. Louis (night game):
A two-run single by Ed Crosby enabled the Cardinals to defeat the Reds, 2-1. After Johnny Bench homered for the Reds' run in the fourth inning, Joe Torre and Ted Simmons singled in the Cards' half and Joe Hague walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Crosby's hit.
