Cubs 8, Braves 0 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs, who scored 32 runs while allowing only two in three games with the Braves, completed the sweep of the series with an 8-0 victory behind the six-hit pitching of Milt Pappas. Rick Monday knocked in two runs with a triple and Jose Cardenal drove in two with a double and single.

Reds 9, Cardinals 5 at St. Louis (day game):
A triple by Bobby Tolan with the bases loaded climaxed the Reds' attack in a 9-5 victory over the Cardinals. With the score tied, 4-4, in the eighth inning, Dave Concepcion batted in two runs with a single to send the Reds ahead. Then, after Pete Rose walked and Joe Morgan was hit by a pitch to fill the sacks, Tolan clinched the outcome with his triple.
